Yamaha M-80 in fair physical condition, functionally fully working. This been fully tested, bias is set. Class-A bias confirmed. This is a later model that has all the Yamaha mods (Technical Bulletin 66H) that made the unit more reliable. With the Yamaha updates, this essentially is identical to the M-85. The dreaded corrosive glue issue with these units has been addressed and mitigated. I replaced Diodes/ capacitors/ resistors to mitigate the corrosive glue issue with these amplifiers. These M-80s sound amazing, and is now fully functional. The output stages and main capacitors are all good and stock, as are the drivers. I tested full power into 4 ohms and prior to clipping gave me more than 547 watts into 4 ohms (both channels driven). At 8 ohms, it pumps out 287 watts before clipping. UPGRADED speaker posts on this unit. The are 5 way Banana binding posts. The OEM could only accept bare wire. You can now use Banana jacks, spades, inserts and bare wire. Sounds amazing, soft, delicate, detailed. Please see all photos and ask questions if in doubt!

One of a Kind M-80! Immaculate near MINT unit. Both Channels Fully rebuilt! All small Audio caps refreshed with new Nichicon Muse and WIMASpeaker posts upgraded to Banana (prior work done by Legendary amplifiers). (Pls inquire about installing higher-end posts, see pic for one option) The transformers were removed, cleaned and repainted as the old foam disintegrates and makes them look ugly. (prior work done by Legendary amplifiers)2 weeks worth of labor has gone into rebuilding this amplifier! All Yamaha 66H service Bulletin mods are installed, making this the same as an M-85, only better.Fully serviced/ Biased/ TestedThese units would blow up because of corrosive glue used in the 80s. This has been Mitigated. All Glue cleaned and all parts around it have been replaced. This unit is as reliable as a new unit. You will not find a better unit. Hence the asking price. Both channels were upgraded to the K-amps kit. Replacing eight 150watt outputs, with Sixteen 130watt devices (Also used in Nakamichi Power amplifiers) on each channel. ie OEM build had four output devices for Audio duties capable of Sourcing 2 amps at 80volts or about 160 watts x 4 = 640 watts per channel before self-immolation. The rebuilt channels have Eight output devices, each able to source 1.8amps at 80v or 144 watts per device or 1152 watts before they go over-spec. It is much more robust now. This makes the amplifier 2 ohm stable. Drivers upgraded from the 20-watt parts to 150watt parts for reliability, and current delivery. Tested Prior to clipping: Both channels driven: 8 ohms - 282 watts x24 Ohms - 400 watts x22 ohms - 625 watts x2 (not recommended for the stock Yamaha M-80 , but this with enhanced output stage has no issues driving this load) ** As the unit is vintage: No warranties are implied. All sales are final. Having said that, this unit has been tested and found Fully functional Both channel heatsinks were stripped, cleaned, sanded, lapped and installed with K-amps MT200 kits. This amplifier now has 32 output devices!!! That is Krell and Threshold territory! This is for anyone who wants a unique build, the best. There is no M-80 like this. ** While the rebuilt amplifier can drive 2 ohms, it still has a thermal limit imposed by the size of the heatsinks. So I would not connect 4 pairs of speakers and run it to its limits as speakers can vary from 2-30 ohms in impedance along the frequency spectrum. So 3-4 pairs could cause a sub 1 ohm dip. One pair that drops to 2 ohms in certain areas is ok. I have tested this at 2 ohms resistive.

Yamaha M-80 in beautiful physical condition, functionally fully working. This been fully tested, bias is set. Class-A bias confirmed. This is a later model that has all the Yamaha mods (Technical Bulletin 66H) that made the unit more reliable. With the Yamaha updates, this essentially is identical to the M-85. The unit is VERY clean, and ALL Stock (except for a few components Diodes/ capacitors/ resistors that I replaced to mitigate the corrosive glue issue with these amplifiers). These M-80s sound amazing, however corrosive glue on two capacitors would corrode nearby diodes and resistors and 2 little capacitors, I have cleaned the glue and replaced the faulty components. The amplifier is now fully functional. The output stages and main capacitors are all good and stock, as is the speaker posts. I tested full power into 4 ohms and prior to clipping gave me more than 450 watts into 4 ohms (both channels driven). The condition is excellent! The new owner will be very pleased with this vintage unit. Sounds amazing, soft, delicate, detailed. Please see all photos and ask questions!
Yamaha M-80 in fair physical condition, functionally fully working. This been fully tested, bias is set. Class-A bias confirmed. This is a later model that has all the Yamaha mods (Technical Bulletin 66H) that made the unit more reliable. The unit came to me with one faulty channel, it ended up being the last tech installed fake parts that caused the issue. Since these outputs are no longer made, I opted to retrofit newer more reliable outputs. These are similar to the ones the MX-1000u uses. I used special MT200 adapters to install these. They are MORE reliable than the OEM now. I replaced all 4 (despite 2 working) outputs of the audio section for consistency. I left the top 4 power supply switchers as is, as they are not part of the audiopath. They were fine and OEM anyway. No need to increase cost for the new owner. It sounds great, and into 8 and 4 ohm dummy loads before clipping, it put out 280 watts and 400watts respectively. I tested the class A for a couple of hours, the top got to 60c and the amplifier worked flawlessly. The condition is ok, there are few areas that make it show its age, but only if you look at it from different angles. I can tell the rear posts have been repaired (common to have these broken during shipping). The repair looks solid, they filled the empty cavity with epoxy to give it more strength than the OEM posts. The top cover has some dings from prior shipping, nothing significant, but needs to be mentioned. The starting price reflects the condition of the amplifier. This is for the frugal user who prefers function more than form. Still, its in pretty good condition, but not Museum quality. Please see all photos and ask questions!
