THORENS TD160 (1976)If you are looking for a well built, reliable, beautiful looking & great sounding vintage deck....then this is for you....DescriptionThe TD160 is very well designed and famed for its outstanding reliability. A classic turntable that is often listed in the top 10 essential turntables of all time. It was built to last using high quality components. High-performance belt-driven turntable which employs; Anti-skating force control, Audiophile Tonearm. Cueing device, Detachable dust cover, Solid Oak cabinet, Isolator feet & Suspended chassis.Refurbishments & Upgrades:All internal & external working parts have been properly cleaned, serviced, polished, oiled & greased where appropriate - all are in perfect working condition. The underside of the chassis has been properly isolated using high quality dampening material (see pics). This removes unwanted vibrations and improves the sound presentation. The old & rather flimsy plinth has been replaced with a brand new solid English Oak custom built plinth. It looks stunning & adds much needed mass & support to the deck. Includes bespoke alloy name badge sourced form the U.S. The Heavy duty base board has holes precisely positioned to allow access to the springs without having to remove the board. An excellent feature & perfect for tweaking the suspension. The base board is fitted with four Spectra Dynamics Focal Pod isolation feet. Audiophile quality & made from solid Sorbothane. Cleaned & oiled the platter bearing & spindle using Van Den Hul turntable oil, runs smoothly.Polished the heavy platter edge to a beautiful shine.Comes fitted with a custom solid Aluminium armboard (Linn geometry)). Fitted to this is a fully functional Jelco ST-250 tonearm. A superb example of this classic tonearm & comes complete with tonearm cable fitted. (see pics). The tonearm is fitted with an audiophile quality Ortofon 2M Red cartridge with new stylus, widely regarded as a fine sounding MM cartridge & an excellent match with this tonearm/deck. Set up correctly using Baerwald geometry. Brand new replacement dust cover, It is perfectly clean, clear & scratch free. Fitted a brand new top quality belt.Original Thorens mat + Cork & Rubber mat + Pure Leather mat.Being a manual deck its very simple to operate. Fully set up and calibrated prior to listing and passing the Bounce Test with flying colours at an impressive 12-14 seconds! This incomplete Thorens TD160 probably was intended by someone to build into some sort of stereo furniture, but apparantly the person did not finish the job. This is the only explanation I can think of why it is in this state. Most parts are there and functioning. The only real thing missing is the headshell with pickup element.Internally some connections have been disconnected as was the arm which I managed to fix again (fortunately most screws were in a plastic bag that came with this item). I tried the motor and fortunately it works. Plateau runs very nice and frictionless, both 45 and 33 RPM function but belt may need replacement. Overall condition is fair, so my guess is that this turntable is best as donor for parts. Please see pictures... what you see is what you get! Thorens TD160 Super Logic Datum 2 Goldring 1012gx. Lovely sounding deck/arm/cartridge combination Deck works perfectly. Has been varnished and has a couple of small blemishes. Arm is in perfect condition and owned from new......Recent excellent examples selling 200 plus. This one is pristine in every respect. Cartridge in great condition and owned from new... Thorens TD160 Super with linn tonearm . Has a Shure M75ej cartridge on board. The Super model comes with the highest spec straight from the thorens factory and is therefore regarded the most superior of all the TD16* series. All the usual upgrades of the Super model with a bespoke Solid Oak plinth . Recently serviced. Working silently linn Basik plus Tonearm included . Thorens TD160B MK2 Turntable. With Nagaoka MP-11 Stylus. This is strictly sold as spares or repair. No returns. The unit seems loose inside so moves about. Srm sits low and moves and doesnt stay up. There looks maybe a bolt missing from base which could be the issue? Also the hinges are missing / damaged for lid but lid is present and has no damage. Condition overall is pretty good. This would make a great project for someone with the right knowledge or to use for parts. I fitted a plug but nothing seems to happen but I have zero knowledge of these so unsure if down to unit being loose? Selling just as described above with no guarantees on any parts etc as unable to test and no knowledge of item. I have tried to show everything in pictures but please feel free to ask any questions? Collection is available if required from DL1 area.

Thorens TD160 with SME3009 arm. This turntable is complete but needs some TLC and service. The motor runs and is quiet. The SME 3009 has a fixed head. The arm feels free but is missing the bias weight and the out rigger weight. The perspex cover need polishing has a scratch on top and a small crack near the hing point on one. see photos. Overall this turntable has the makings of a very useful addition to a classic stereo system with some work and informed maintenance.On 22-Jun-23 at 14:43:47 BST, seller added the following information: The small bias weight has been found and is included. The outrigger ballance weight is missing but are available on eBay from other sellers The arm and main platter will be removed for safe packing. Thorens TD160 B MK11 / SME 3009 series 11 improved /Ortofon VMS20E MK11. Lovely Thorens TD160 B MK11 with SME 3009 with original plinth Oak veneered in real walnut and waxed to a lovely finish Fitted with Ortofon VMS 20E MK11 which matches this arm perfectly, sounds fantastic New custom made lid fitted with rega hinges ( I think these work best as they enable the dust cover to lift off so much easier ) Thicker MDF baseboard finished in satin black with new rubber feet . (Can supply the original if preferred) Polished platter Overall this turntable is set up perfectly ,needs nothing and sounds really nice. Unfortunately I will definitely not post due to the very delicate nature of the turntable so collection only from Felixstowe, Suffolk , where you can have a listen before taking away if you wish.
