Vintage Thorens TD160 turntable. Part of a clearance. Essentially working but may require some sort of service due to not being used for a while. Used & runs fine but couple of minor issues worth pointing out. Firstly the arm lever seems to need damping eg when you go to lower the arm it just drops on the record not gradually as youd expect & again when raising the arm it jumps up. If you move the lever gradually it is fine. Secondly on speed control it doesnt move the belt up automatically to 45, not sure if it needs a new belt or something else. Its fine if you move the belt up yourself. Speed is constant. Power lead has been cut & put in terminal blocks. Lid is damaged each side & one lid peg missing. Included free with a second cartridge that is untested. Original on deck sounds fine out of both channels. Some marks to unit overall, please see all photos for overall condition. Will take some time to pack & heavy & fragile hence postage costs.

Someone probably intended this Thorens TD160 to be build into some sort of stereo furniture, but apparantly did not finish the job and so it ended up in a thrift shop. This is the only explanation I can think of why I found it there in this state. Most parts are there, the only real thing missing is the headshell with pickup element.Internally some connections are disconnected as was the arm that I have reattached (fortunately most screws were in a plastic bag inside the cabinet). I tried the motor by applying current to it and it works. Plateau runs very nice and without any friction, both 45 and 33 RPM function but belt may need replacement. Overall condition is fair, so my guess is that this turntable is best as donor for parts. Please see pictures... what you see is what you get! Lovely Thorens TD160 B MK11 with SME 3009 with original plinth Oak veneered in real walnut and waxed to a lovely finish Fitted with Ortofon VMS 20E MK11 which matches this arm perfectly, sounds fantastic New custom made lid fitted with rega hinges ( I think these work best as they enable the dust cover to lift off so much easier ) Thicker MDF baseboard finished in satin black with new rubber feet . (Can supply the original if preferred) Polished platter Overall this turntable is set up perfectly ,needs nothing and sounds really nice. Unfortunately I will definitely not post due to the very delicate nature of the turntable so collection only from Felixstowe, Suffolk , where you can have a listen before taking away if you wish. Thorens TD160 Motor. Please read carefully! The motor was tested and turns, however it sometimes turns counterclockwise. This can be due to failure of the capacitors or this can be a motor problem, however I opened the motor and couldn’t find any loose windings so the motor is probably OK. However, it was not tested with new capacitors so there’s no guarantee that it is not defective!!! Because of this, the motor is sold as is and it is sold as “defective”. Please be aware of this before buying!!!! No returns and please no claims that the motor is defective, it is clearly stated in the auction description that it is sold as a defective motor. Also the spindle of the motor is not 100% straight, but it is acceptable. Sold as is for parts or repair!
