The underside of the chassis has been properly isolated using high quality dampening material. This removes unwanted vibrations and improves the sound presentation. The old & rather flimsy plinth has been replaced with a brand new solid English Oak custom built plinth. It looks stunning & adds much needed mass & support to the deck. The base board has holes precisely positioned to allow access to the springs without having to remove the board - an excellent feature & perfect for tweaking the suspension. It comes fitted with four high quality isolation feet. The plinth has a gold plated RCA socket fitted, so perfect for setting up & swapping cables. The deck comes with a new pair of 75cm long Silver plated copper core interconnects with gold plated RCA connectors.Cleaned & oiled the platter bearing & spindle using Van Den Hul turntable oil, runs perfectly smoothly.Polished the heavy platter edge to a beautiful shine.Fitted to this is a the original Thorens TP16 tonearm. Someone probably intended this Thorens TD160 to be build into some sort of stereo furniture, but apparantly did not finish the job and so it ended up in a thrift shop. This is the only explanation I can think of why I found it there in this state. Most parts are there, the only real thing missing is the headshell with pickup element.Internally some connections are disconnected as was the arm that I have reattached (fortunately most screws were in a plastic bag inside the cabinet). I tried the motor by applying current to it and it works. Plateau runs very nice and without any friction, both 45 and 33 RPM function but belt may need replacement. Overall condition is fair, so my guess is that this turntable is best as donor for parts. Please see pictures... what you see is what you get! Thorens TD160 Motor. Please read carefully! The motor was tested and turns, however it sometimes turns counterclockwise. This can be due to failure of the capacitors or this can be a motor problem, however I opened the motor and couldn’t find any loose windings so the motor is probably OK. However, it was not tested with new capacitors so there’s no guarantee that it is not defective!!! Because of this, the motor is sold as is and it is sold as “defective”. Please be aware of this before buying!!!! No returns and please no claims that the motor is defective, it is clearly stated in the auction description that it is sold as a defective motor. Also the spindle of the motor is not 100% straight, but it is acceptable. Sold as is for parts or repair!

Thorens TD160 turntable. As you can see from the photos this turntable is not in great condition. I cant even claim that its in good condition. Its lid is missing, the left hand side of the wooden plinth base has been cut, presumably to fit into some kind of unit. The drive motor runs smoothly and quietly although can start up in reverse at times. The tone arm counter balance weight has been replaced with something home made but does the job. The drive belt is new and original Thorens. The pickup cartridge and stylus are also new. (audio-technica AT95E)My thinking is that someone might want this to restore or maybe for spare parts. I used it a few times after replacing the drive belt and cartridge but I was disappointed with the condition of my old record collection none of which had I played for many years. I decided to stick with Spotify and my CDs.

Thorens Td160b Face Plate and Inner Platter. Td160 plinth - looks like it is from a much later model. This has a much finer veneer than the original TD160 plinth and looks like it is Mdf rather than chipboard as per the 1970a original. The colour is darker as well more like rosewood. The plinth has cutouts for lid hinges and it doesn’t have the aluminium strip on the front upon which the lid rests when shut. This listing includes: -Plinth -Faceplate -Inner platter fixed -Plinth base (MDF) and rosewood feet/spikes and disks for feet -SME Armboard Excluded: -Outer platter -Platter mat -Tonearm -Motor -Speed adjust -Power leads and circuit -Lid and hinges -Belt I had a phase of restoring and customising Thorens TD160 turntables and accumulated lots of parts and spares, I can’t be certain where they all came from or how old used they are. This is a vintage Thorens TD160 turntable fitted with a Shure V15 II cartridge. It is one of a number of turntables that I own and seldom use, so I have decided to sell it. The turntable is in good cosmetic condition for its age and was in working order the last time I used it, but is probably in need of a mechanical and electrical overhaul. It runs smoothly at 33rpm but I can hear the belt rubbing at 45rpm, so the speed-change mechanism probably needs some adjustment. The dust-cover is in reasonable condition with some light scratches and misting. The left hinge is broken (see photo), which is a common issue on this model, but is still functional. I will provide a replacement belt. I bought it from William Thakker in Germany but the original Thorens belt is still good, so I have never used the Thakker belt. The cartridge is fitted with a little-used aftermarket stylus, probably with less than 40 hours of use. I will also provide the original Shure stylus that came with the turntable - it has unknown hours but still sounds good. The aftermarket stylus is a bonded elliptical while the original stylus was a nude elliptical. I bought an aftermarket hyper-elliptical (HE) stylus for the cartridge - a Japanese-made BLISS from Turntable Needles in the US. It is not included in this sale but I could sell it to the winning bidder, if desired. Again, it is little-used, with only about 20 hours of use. I paid about £130 for it but would sell it for half that price, so £65. This is a UK-only sale and is by collection in person from Chesterfield only. Payment can be by cash-on-collection or, if preferred, in advance through eBay. I request collection of the item within 7 days of the end of the auction.
