This is a rare Hagerman SUT with Billington TX103 transformers. The S&B TX103 transformer is now only available from Music First Audio at great cost. The SUT has an attached 10 RCA interconnect. Its short, low capacitance and shielded. The SUT is dead quiet. Its an excellent design. As you can see from the manual (Ive included a few pics), this SUT can be set to three different gain settings depending on your needs. Mine is set at 18dB gain. I believe the winding ratio is 1:10. I used it very happily with an array of different carts, including an Air Tight PC1s, Phasemation PP-300 and a Dynavector DRT-XV1s. It sounded amazing with all. The TX103 is a superb transformer. This is an amazing SUT. The dual-mono design creates incredible separation. Instruments hold their own in a sonic field like Id never heard before. I used it with RCA ICs with an Air Tight PC1s. Wonderful sound. The SUT is in excellent, near-mint condition. The only imperfection I could find is a tiny nick on the edge of the right SUT as pictured. I have the original boxes and manuals. I think its fair to say that there are a very small small number of SUTs that can beat this one. The Phasemation T-1000 Stereo MC Step Up Transformer (SUT) is second only to Phasemations flagship T-2000Main Features. The T-1000 is a dual chassis, dual mono design, so total separation of the two channels into two sturdy and beautifully finished enclosures. The front panel has a 10mm thick slant aluminum panel, a 1.2mm thick copper plating board chassis, and a 1.6mm thick copper plating cover. Extensive magnetic shielding material around the transformers has resulted in a significant reduction in hum and magnetic distortion. Like all Phasemation SUTs, the transformers are isolated using high damping rubber materials, but here those measures go much further than in the T-320 and T-550 SUTs.Why dual mono? Complete separation of left and right channels means improved rendition of soundstaging and localisation cues. This characteristic is delightful and certainly not subtle.Balanced Phono Inputs. Up for sale is a wonderful Rothwell step up transformer (SUT) for moving coil cartridges. It is a passive device that goes between a turntable and a moving magnet preamp (either the internal MM preamp built into your amplifier or an external MM). According to the Rothwell website: “The MCL is suitable for low output moving coil cartridges with outputs in the range 0.2mV - 0.7mV (at 1kHz, 5cm/sec), and internal impedances below 20 ohms.” The MCL boosts the signal of a low output MC cartridge without requiring any external power, so it does not introduce any noise into the chain between turntable and amplifier. This is an excellent step-up transformer (SUT) for your moving coil phono cartridge that compared favorably to a $2000+ Ortofon transformer I borrowed from my dealer. This is the Music First 632 SUT, Made in England. It received a very favorable review from Stereophile and appeared in that magazines list of Recommended Components for several years. This is a 1:10 step up, so it multiplies the output of your cartridge by a factor of 10 while reducing the phono stages input impedance by a factor of 100 as seen by your cartridge. In practice, this works best with cartridges in the range of 0.3mV to 0.5mV and with internal impedance of 47 Ohms or less. Ive tried this with Hana, Benz, Denon and Miyajima cartridges with good results. It is a great bargain even at its original price. Read the Stereophile review.
