I used to be an audiophile, which means I’d buy stereo gear on a whim when I could, to see if it made my system better. These days, the ‘system’ hasn’t changed in years, so I need to get rid of the stuff that isn’t in it. If you think you need it, you do! Bid early and often. All the way from north of the border in Canada, here’s a pretty rare MORRISON E.L.A.D. PREAMPLIFIER. Don Morrison learned audio design from Stu Hegemann, and the ELAD was his attempt to make a very neutral, very noise-free preamp to provide an uncolored source to drive a power amp and his speakers. I can vouch that it succeeds on all those counts. Its fans included Peter Aczel of “The Audio Critic”, who thought it the best he had ever heard when he first reviewed it. When I got this one (version 2.0b, unmodified), it had no power cable between the power supply and the audio unit, so I put one together using some SOLID SILVER wire (because it’s an AUDIOPHILE unit, dang it) and a couple XLR-3M connectors I had lying around. It works, and the preamp works. Selling because while it’s impressively quiet and neutral, so is my current heavily modified Hafler, and I don’t like the side-by-side volume pots on the ELAD. I’m throwing in an NIB passive audio switch box that I’ve never used, so you can get around the lack of inputs on the ELAD (only 2, unless you find the Morrison-built input switcher that’s a lot rarer than the ELAD itself). These were made from 1999-2011, list price was around 1200USD. This one is serial number 537, dont know if that means early or late. Downright cheap start bid of ONE HUNDRED TWENTY NINE DAMN U.S. DOLLARS . Shipping is EIGHTY FIVE BUCKS anywhere in the CONUS— this thing is heavy (23 lbs) and big (18x12x12); USPS gives 102.00 as the Priority price so Im not gouging here, plus I do refund excess shipping if I get a smokin deal somehow. Up for auction I have a very nice Conrad Jhonson PV3 Stereo preamp in very good cosmetic condition. This preamp with the exception of a slight hum sounds very good and is quite outstanding for vintage unit.Not sure if the hum is normal for this type of preamp or if it might need some power supply caps replaced.So please be advised that this unit might need service..The preamp was slightly modified to include a automatic mute that delays signal for aprox. 60 seconds to eliminate thuds or surges at turn on.This is standard on more expensive Conrad Jhonson preamps such as the PV5 etc.This is high quality stereo preamp in the same league as Marantz Mcintosh etc. Shipping to the USA.
