Firstly, this is a tangential record player, this means that the stylus moves across the record deck at a 90 degree angle to the record across the whole record. this reduces weight on the record by the stylus as it sits perfectly in groove at all times. In addition, there is a black round weight sensor in the centre of the deck, this records the weight of the record being played and sets up the record player with the correct speed (LP or Single) and sets the record player start position so that the stylus starts in exactly the correct position. There are control buttons on the record deck for moving the stylus to intended tracks on the album. These controls raise and lower the stylus in the selected position and there is also a play command button, The stylus is also moved to the requested start position on the record and can be lowered into the position required. To make this all easier to do Bang and Olufsen, in its design also incorporated a light in the back of the unit that shines across the record highlighting the grooves, making the start of tracks easily identifiable. The record player is mounted on its ground breaking suspension system that removes vibrations and keeps the record player playing at its optimum performant. B&O Beogram 4000 Vinyl Record Turntable with MMC20E Cartridge This one is in good used example with some marks from normal use and storage but definitely nothing at all major and nothing that would affect its performance has recently been checked and tested - all works and sound good (see photos/video) there are some small knocks to the wood surround and the dustcover does have some marks that might be polished out but it does do its one job - protecting the turntable, the turntable is fitted with RCA phonos and separate earth wire and has hade a new drive belt fitted recently, and it comes complete with the B&O MMC 20 E cartridge/stylus, it is fitted with a 2pin EU plug with an adaptor to a standard three pin UK plug. The pickup cartridge can be the discs worse enemy since an ill-suited cartridge can mark a record for life in a single play.While B&O is aware that cartridge specifications are inter-related, their research shows consistently that Effective Tip Mass (ETM) is one of the major factors affecting record wear. ETM is the equivalent of the amount of inertia the groove sees in moving or accelerating the stylus tip. Consequently, the higher the ETM value, the higher the force required for a given constant acceleration. Obviously, more force results in more wear.Three elements contribute to ETM. The stylus tip (diamond) contributes with its entire weight and mass. The armature contributes between 5 - 20% of its weight and mass; the cantilever around 30%. B&O has been able to reduce ETM substantially by refining these elements and building them into an integrated unit. Up for sale here is my prized Bang and Olufsen TX2 turntable with the superb MMC2 stylus This tangential record player is a work of art and superb in its design and operation. Firstly, this is a tangential record player, this means that the stylus moves across the record deck at a 90 degree angle to the record across the whole record. this reduces weight on the record by the stylus as it sits perfectly in groove at all times. In addition, there is a black round weight sensor in the centre of the deck, this records the weight of the record being played and sets up the record player with the correct speed (LP or Single) and sets the record player start position so that the stylus starts in exactly the correct position. There are control buttons on the record deck for moving the stylus to intended tracks on the album. These controls raise and lower the stylus in the selected position and there is also a play command button, The stylus is also moved to the requested start position on the record and can be lowered into the position required. To make this all easier to do Bang and Olufsen, in its design also incorporated a light in the back of the unit that shines across the record highlighting the grooves, making the start of tracks easily identifiable. The record player is mounted on its ground breaking suspension system that removes vibrations and keeps the record player playing at its optimum performant.
