Welcome to my listing of my Setup & Maintenance Jig for the Linn LP12, this has been updated from my V2 jig, it is now a bolted together solution, as opposed to the previous version that used tie wraps as a semi permanent assembly, so it can be dismantled if required to be stored away flatpacked. The LP12 supports have been re-designed to allow the turntable to be inserted into the jig upside down, so upgrading your turntable is made easy with its internals easily accessed from the top. I have had buyers of this jig let me know that the LP12 supports also work with the following turntables as well Ariston RD11 and RD11SLinn Axis Features carried over from the previous version include:- Larger cutouts to the side to make the loading of the turntable into the jig easier, Thumbwheel adjustment feet, to allow an easier levelling process, Soft rubber feet bonded onto the side frame, allowing the adjustment feet to be retracted up, and giving the jig a much greater grip on its resting surface if non levelling tasks are performed. The jig is manufactured from 6mm MDF sheet. It allows you to make easy adjustments to the sub chassis springs, with the turntable being held securely and horizontally in the frame. The supports allow the turntable to be placed into the jig, and allow the base to be removed with no interference from the jig or supports, whilst removal of the base is not always needed to adjust the springs (as access holes are provided on some turntables), it allows access to the underside of the turntable to service or change parts/tonearms etc, however with this latest variant the turntable can be inverted for a much more convenient and easier process of upgrading and repairing the turntable. The frame comes flat packed and is assembled by slotting the panels and braces together, but can be collapsed to flat pack again for easy storage when not in use, instructions for assembly are provided. Linn Sondek LP12 Sub-platter and Bearing AssemblyThis LP12 Sub-platter and matched white Bearing are in really excellent mechanical condition - the Spindle to Bearing tolerance is spot on. With the Spindle wiped clean there is still a pressure / vacuum when the Bearing is fitted and removed from the Spindle indicating a perfect fit between the two parts. Adding an small amount of oil to the Spindle allows the Sub-platter to spin freely and smoothly over a very extended period. As can be seen there are no wear marks or damage to the Spindle.This Bearing / Spindle match is key to the LP12s legendary performance and it is important that these components are matched (from the same LP12) as they will have bedded in over time. The top of the Sub-platter appears to have been spray painted with silver paint, I have not removed this as it is covered by the Platter Mat when in use.Supplied dry and therefore oil need to be added before use. Linn LP12 Sondek with full Vinyl Passion Unity Two Upgrade, Audiomods 6 tonearm, Origin Live Aladdin MI cartridge & Custom made Mongoy wood Plinth. Available for sale is my beautiful Linn LP12 Sondek. Available only because it is part of my second system and rarely gets used. This is an absolutely stunning version, both visually and sonically, of this iconic turntable, easily outperforming any Linn specified deck retailing at £10K and above. Rebuilt completely to Vinyl Passion Unity Two spec (please look at the numerous positive reviews and recommendations of these upgrades if you are unaware of them), details of which are listed below, using the Cirkus bearing and inner platter. It is housed in a stunning Mongoy (African hardwood) plinth, custom built by Woodoosound. It includes the magnificent, multi award winning Audiomods 6 arm, supplied new to me in 2021, and as a combined package, currently retails for over £8000 (see The Music Rooms/Vinyl Passion website for details). This really is an ‘ultimate’ LP12 and as you generally only get what you pay for in life, this LP12 may not be the cheapest offering out there, but I feel it shows the pinnacle of what is achievable when you carefully blend great components and therefore represents an absolute bargain in real terms . As stated earlier, as well as looking stunning, it is absolutely sublime sonically, bringing out details from your vinyl you may never have heard before! It has then been carefully set up including new bearing oil and recently had a new belt. Turntable Linn Sondek LP12 kit Valhalla + Lurne arm 2 + Moving coil cartridge Supex 900 super + Supex SDT 1000 pre-preamplifier. This turntable (pictures1-5), his tone arm and Supex 900 super (picture 6) and Supex SDT 1000 step transformer (pictures 7 and 8) are in perfect working conditions and come with several accessories including a spare belt, the oil for the tone arm in a syringe, a Decca brush for cleaning LPs and a Supex liquid for cleaning the stylus (pictures 9 and 10), the written instructions of Mr. Lurne himself (the conceptor of the famous Goldmund turntable) to adjust any cartridge (in French, but that I will be very pleased to translate, being fully bilingual, picture 11) and all original packages (pictures 12 and 13). The stylus of the Supex 900 super cartridge is in excellent condition as my Linn Sondek was only used to read brand new LPs (see last paragraph below). I am a stereo maniac, with a McIntosh amplifier 7270, McIntosh preamplifier C31V, McIntosh CD player MCD 7007, McIntosh FM tuner MR 7082 connected to an external antenna, Quad ESL 63 Pro electrostatic speakers, Revox B77 reel to reel tape recorder, and Nakamichi 1000 ZXL K7 deck, both tape recorders connected to a DBX 124 noise reduction unit (see pictures 14 and 15). Connectic is by Monster cables, except for the Quads, which are connected to the amplifier by Leedh cables. My listening room is almost perfect with a height of 6.5 m in inverse V (see pictures 16 and 17), and thus with a huge volume. The Quads ESL 63 Pro are perfectly placed at 1.2 m of the back and lateralwalls in stone (0.7 m thick) and distant of 4.5 m. The insulation of the walls on the back of the Quads has been rigidified to avoid any parasite vibration as the Quads function in doublet. There is a specific electric line for the stereo directly from the electric counter. You may notice 1) that the amplifier at the bottom of my rack is sufficiently far away of the other components to avoid any radiation of the monstrous output transformers of the McIntosh amplifier 7270, and 2) that the Quads are on home-made metallic stands. They are filled with sand with cork supports on both the metallic plate bottom of the Quads and on the wooden floor. In my personal opinion the Quad stands are not high enough to get a perfect stereo image for a seated listener. I have plenty of test CDs including the Chesky volumes 1 to 3, plenty of friends who are musicians, and I regularly assist to live concerts of mostly Baroque music, blues and jazz... I had two turntables: This Linn Sondek LP12 operating in my main listening room with an AGI 511 A preamplifier (much better than my present McIntosh preamp for its phono section, already sold recently on eBay). Another secondary stereo system with a turntable Thorens TD 160 (also recently sold on eBay) was in use in my office comprising a Marantz 2225 receiver connected to the external FM antenna, a basic Sony CD player CDP-690, and a pair of French 3A Apogée Monitor speakers (see pictures 18 and 19).
