These were part of B&Ws approach to a midrange line of speakers in the early 90s, but they couldnt help but produce a high-end speaker. Manufactured in England with the rest of the lineup. Some wear as expected for cabinets of this age but overall in very good condition. Appropriate cables and the right amp will make these sing. DBX DX5 Compact Player sold for Parts Or Repair Our testing found that the disc drawer would only open some of the time, likely needs new belts and lubrication. When it did open we were able to play some of our CD’s but others it did not read. The eye likely needs cleaning as well. After finding these issues we stopped testing. The cosmetics on this unit are very nice and there is just signs of light wear and tear to the cabinet as shown in the photographs. This listing is for a PlayStation that has been restored and modified to make an excellent CD player. This model is the SCPH-1001, the original US release. Sony opted to use AKM AK DACs for sound processing in these early consoles, and it provides excellent sonic characteristics and a clean sound almost three decades after its release. Later models lost the high-quality DAC and the clean sound of the original. This unit, like the vast majority of first generation units, was made in Japan. MODDING PROCESS: As can be seen in the close up pictures of the audio section of the mainboard, all of the capacitors in the audio section of the mainboard have been replaced with equivalent Nichicon Fine Gold capacitors. With the exception of the Nichicon caps mentioned above, the entire console has been fully re-capped using Console5 capacitor kits. Console5 is a well-respected supplier of console modification, repair, and restoration parts and kits. Previously there were links here to the two specific kits used so interested buyers could examine them for themselves, but eBay in its infinite wisdom has decided that simply linking to a product used to refurbish these consoles violates the seller agreement. The jack that connects the power cord to the power board has been de-soldered and re-soldered, as this connection can fail overtime due to plugging and unplugging the power cord from the rear of the console. (Several places in this listing the phrase de-soldered and re-soldered is used. When stated, this means that all old solder has been completely removed, the surface cleaned, and then fresh solder used to complete the connections again.) All three RCA connections as well as the AV multi-out connector have been de-soldered and re-soldered. Aging solder joints can affect the video and audio signals and produce the you have to hold down on the connector in a specific way and at a specific angle to get it to work behavior that can arise from bad or old solder joints. The disc lid detection switch that only allows the console to read a disc when the lid is closed has been removed and the contacts bridged so the console always reads the lid as closed. All soldering was done with high quality Cardas Quad Eutectic Silver Solder.CLEANING PROCESS:All units are 100% disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt. Smooth and consistent movement of the lid opening mechanism is verified, as well as that of the latching mechanism and open button, a common sticking point, function well. After removing all of the electronics, each unit is cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner with a mild detergent solution. The use of the ultrasonic cleaner removes dirt and other debris from hard to reach areas that might otherwise not get fully cleaned. Top and bottom cases and the three buttons are then retrobrited to remove the majority of the yellowing that is common on ABS cases from consoles and electronics of this era. The retrobriting process involves exposing the shell to UV light while it is submerged in hydrogen peroxide. While this process does have consistent results, they are dependent on the original condition and amount of yellowing on the shell. As such, not all shells can be restored as close to the original color as others. INCLUDES:PlayStation consolePlayStation 2 DVD player remote and corresponding adapter. While the majority of it is non-functional on the PlayStation, it does allow you to play/pause (triangular button at the bottom), stop (rectangular button at the bottom), next track (R1), previous track (L2), fast forward (R2), and rewind (L2). When you power on the PlayStation with an audio CD inserted, it reads it and then goes to the CD player automatically, so all you need to do after it boots is to press start on the remote. No display is required if you dont want to use one.Power cord NOTES:The removal of the lid detection switch can sometimes cause issues with playback when switching CDs. If the console fails to read a CD when play is pressed after swapping, simply press the reset button on the console and let the console reload with the new CD. Functionality of the AV multi-out audio and video signals are not guaranteed. Only the functionality of the three RCA jacks is guaranteed. The functionality of this console for playing video games is not guaranteed. There is no reason that it should not work for video games with the refurbishments and upgrades performed, but it is not tested for this functionality. It is only tested for functionality as a CD player. Consoles are restored to look as good as possible but sometimes there is superficial damage or discoloration that cannot be removed without causing further issues. When purchasing consoles for refurbishing and upgrading, care is taken to select ones that are in good physical condition to ensure the best possible final outcome. Every console is tested after the completion of the modifications and again before shipping to ensure that they function as described. However, the PlayStation is almost three decades old and can occasionally exhibit issues, even after testing. More often than not, resetting the console via the reset button or a power cycle will solve the majority of issues.

This narrow difference in price suggest to me that they regard their certified used tuners as virtually identical in quality to their new ones. Thats what this MD-90 was 2 years ago, certified used guaranteed factory specification as new. However, there is a warranty on the refurbished units, one or two years as I recall, but it is not transferable. That is one reason that this MD-90 has a lower price than a direct purchase from Magnum Dynalab. The other reason is that it is 2 years removed from that factory certification. Hard to say what that is worth; it works perfectly, exactly as when I received it two years ago. MDs previous products FT101 are available on eBay for less but they are the previous product not the current product (which is not to say it is not a very nice tuner). Magnum Dynalab is generally regarded as one of the best tuners in the world. It is not always acclaimed as the very best FM tuner in the world, but it is pretty much always among them. I do know that many of the other top five or top 10 FM tuners have not been sold for decades so maybe this is the best currently sold FM tuner. Magnum Dynalab claims that this MD-90 is the tuner most purchased and used by FM radio stations to monitor their over the air signal. A Magnum Dynalab antenna and the Manual are included. The manual is photocopied and spiral bound but thats the way they sent it. Shipping: if you live close to Portland OR you might want to choose your own shipping method.
