The d/a processing is executed by the infamous Philips TDA1541 chipset (with the 2x oversampling) and the excellent Philips CDM-4 transport mechanism is present, as well. Additional improved by Ken Ishiwata to get the Special Edition moniker, this player still sounds very natural and musical compared to designs that happened much, much later in time.
