Classic well reviewed Audiophile Stereo Hi-Current 2 channel Amplifier Adcom GFA-555II. This one is currently a mono block amplifier as the left channel stopped working for some reason. ***Only Right channel is working*** Cosmetic condition is excellent. The right channel works perfectly and sounds beautiful. The left channel does not power on. Sold As-Is no warranty no returns. The left channel is not coming on. It might be an easy fix but I am not a technician so am not able to determine the cause for it not working and am selling it as a powerful Mono-Block amplifier. Contact me with any questions. Up for sale here is a special example of whats possible with the Adcom GFA-555. As these amplifiers are suffering from age now they all require service, capacitors, etc. Along with this the amplifiers were produced a long time ago. Semiconductor technology has improved, 1% metal film resistors are cheap as well as sealed trim pots. Hoppes Brain offers a new updated pcb that has the same circuit from the 555 with improved thermal performance, distortion, etc. Also uses new 1% metal film resistors, new transistors, all new updated components. Hoppes Brain also offers a power supply upgrade with soft start. This update is tons better than the original, less noise, soft start with smart features. This new pcb(s) add local bypass to the large capacitors with local film capacitor bypass again. New drain resistors and new flat pack bridge rectifiers mounted in very nice heatsinks. These 2 boards are around $750 alone to buy. Amp had new wires, new binding posts, new rca jacks, new bias switch. Creates a very nice example of the 555 that will last many years. Original output sections were also gone through. Every output transistor was pulled off the heatsinks. Original thermal pads were trashed and new Sil-pads used. Output transistors were measured and matched as needed with original outputs that I keep on hand. I make sure the outputs are all closely matched. Old ceramic capacitors were replaced with silver mica on output sections to stabilize amplifier. New wire, and the wire harnesses for bias transistors replaced with new. Bias was set to factory spec. along with a check of DC offset to verify that it was well within factory specifications. Amplifier was bench tested and thermally checked as well. An amazing one of a kind amplifier. Before its asked, these upgrades in comparison to musical concepts are in another league. I have rebuilt and upgraded a musical concepts 555 and was less than impressed. Few updated resistors, IXYS bridge rectifiers and film caps were the extent of changes. These are all ok upgrades but only scratches the surface compared to what improvements the Hoppes new Input section and power supply does for these amplifiers. * There was a piece of duct tape on the side of the amplifier that I removed but it left a blemish thats visible. (Visible in picture of side of the amplifier) Amplifier case is in good condition, I did my best to show condition in the pictures. Please ask for any other photos you would like to see.
