Twenty years ago this Velodyne subwoofer was top of the line. Retailing for $2,999, many considered it the most accurate and powerful subwoofer you could buy for your home. It has an 18 inch driver, Class D 1,250 watt amplifier (3,000 watts peak) in an equally large enclosure: 24 x 21 x 19. At that time, few products even came close. Is the HGS-18 as good as todays best subwoofers? Maybe not, but here is a quote from a 1999 review of the HGS-18 in Home Theater & HiFi magazine: Of course, if all one listened to was some Mozart, there would be no need for a subwoofer of this size.
