YEAR:1976 This is the “RS-630U-II” of TECHNICS, a brand for audio equipment of Panasonic Corporation of Japan. It is a stereo cassette deck with LH head using high softness permalloy for recording and playback, and double gap ferrite for erasure, and is compatible with CrO2, normal, and 2-position tapes. It is equipped with a large level meter that can also be used to check peaks by switching a switch. Dolby NR is equipped as a noise reduction system. The electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with high-end audio grade capacitors, the mechanical parts have been overhauled and repaired, rubber belts have been replaced, and the switch parts have been overhauled and repaired. The top panel cabinet was painted black. Checked the contacts, foundations, and parts, disassembled, repaired, and replaced the external button knobs, input/output terminals on the back side, and cleaned the inside of the unit. I adjusted the azimuth and level meter, checked the power, and actually recorded music from the turntable and played it back on this cassette deck to confirm the operation. Playback, recording, rewinding, and fast-forwarding operate normally. The auto-stop function is designed to work only during playback and recording, but the auto-stop function could not be restored. I am selling a great looking 1977 Technics RS-630T stereo cassette deck. The main features of the Technics RS-630T are: 2 heads, mechanical 3 digit tape counter, manual tape type selection and capable of handling normal and chrome tapes, belt driven single-capstan transport.Typical front loading cassette deck with the cassette compartiment located on the left side of the deck. Tape eject is operated mechanically and the cassette needs to be placed diagonally in the cassette well.Level meters used on the RS-630T are analog needle VU reading meters. Mechanical transport controls for reliable RS-630T transport function selection.The Dolby-B system reduces tape hiss on tapes recorded on the RS-630T by as much as 10 dB at the highest frequencies.To make live recordings this deck has 2 microphone inputs to connect microphones with a jack connector. For undisturbed listening a jack connector for a pair of stereo headphones is supplied. Connection to other audio components for plaback can be achieved by a RCA cable and recording from a source by a RCA cable.It lit up when I plugged it in. No further testing was done. This deck is in good, working condition. The only issue I noted is that the counter does not turn. I did not test the record with a mic, but the record light comes on and it seems to function as it should. I assume the belt is original. I did not inspect it. It is working now, but I cant guarantee for how long it will function normally. There is some very minor wear as shown in the photos. Technics RS-630USD Stereo Cassette Tape Recorder. This Technics unit has been personally serviced by me prior to listing. The PC-boards have been cleaned, de-oxidized and the transport mechanism removed from the unit with all moving parts cleaned, re-greased & lubricated. The pinch-roller & capstan/flywheel have been cleaned and the piston shaft re-lubricated. The tape playback head & transport path have also been cleaned, de-magnetised and all belts replaced. Additionally, the Idler-tyres operating the Supply / Take-up Reels have been cleaned and treated. The dismantled transport mechanism can be seen in my pictures. The deck has been fully set-up with the tracking, azimuth alignment and wow & flutter tolerances checked upon completion of this work. However Please note: I have disconnected the Tape Counter as the counter has a fault which places a strain on the belts that effects the unit in REW mode. My work bench is equipped with professional electronic measurement and test instruments from Kenwood, TTI, Leader, Hitachi and Lindos. During its service the faceplate, knobs & switches were cleaned upon removal from the unit during disassembly. Overall the Tape Deck works correctly (with exception to the tape counter) and is in excellent cosmetic condition both internally and externally. The tape-deck showed no signs of tampering prior to my service; the unit was kept in dry storage for over 15 years and is in original condition. The service including parts and materials would normally be charged a good deal above half my listed sale price for the unit... I notice many units listed for sale on various platforms stating refurbished but no information as to what work was carried out. I am a Vintage HiFi enthusiast and carry out service; repairs /refurbishment to vintage iconic HiFi, I only acquire and work with quality units that have been cared for and unmolested. My passion started back in the late 70s / early 80s when I worked in Laskys and other HiFi outlets located on the famous Hi-Fi retail street at (Tottenham Court Road -London). I have since had a passion for vintage HiFi. This Technics RS-630USD is very well built and was a high spec midrange unit back in the late 1970s (1976/7). During this period Technics designed some excellent tape decks that competed amongst the best brands during this HiFi era. This deck is no exception with its unique front loading flat-bed compartment with sliding door. Its large analogue peak check meters, bias current & equalisation selector switches and Dolby system with normal, ferric and chrome tape settings. It has a brushed aluminum panel and a non-standard illuminated cassette compartment with a Perspex sliding door Collection in person only and I will demonstrate/playtest the unit to the buyer upon collection. Technics RS-630 Cassette Deck With Box - Working With Some Issues - See Descrip. The unit is in very good overall condition, complete with original box. There are signs of use, with scratches and some slight denting to the unit but overall in very good condition for age and maintains its visual appeal. Box is in good condition however no inserts so will be well packed. The deck plays cassettes, with all functions - play, pause, stop, forward and rewind - working as they should. Various outputs work well, headphones and speakers have been tested and both are working. This is as far as its been tested with the more complex features untested. Tape count is not working with nothing happening at all when a cassette is played. As Im no expert I dont know if this means other problems for other features.
