National Panasonic stellte 1954 als erstes japanisches Unternehmen einen Hifi-Tonabnehmer und 1958 das ersten Stereo-Magnetsystem Japans her - das STM-58 für die damals neue Stereo-Schallplatte. In dieser Tradition brachte National unter dem erfolgreich eingeführten Markennamen Technics in den 1970ern eine Reihe von Tonabnehmern auf den Markt, die die eigenen Plattenspielerbaureihen ergänzte und der US-Konkurrenz auf Augenhöhe begegnen konnte. Das EPC-205-II L ist ein MM-System mit hoher Nadelnachgiebigkeit für geringe Auflagekräfte um 1,25 p. Mit seiner geringen Impedanz produziert es zwar nur eine geringe Ausgangsspannung, ist aber weitgehend umenpfindlich gegen hohe Kapazitäten. Die Tonabnehmer der 205er Baureihe waren nach dem Top-Abtaster EPC-100 die größten Modelle im Technics-Programm und zählten zur Spitzenklasse. Das SH-100 Magnesium Headshell gehörte zum Lieferumfang des EPA-100 Tonarms und der Komplett-Laufwerke SL-13x0 II, SL-14x0 II und SL-15x0 II oder war separat erhältlich. Großer Einstellbereich, bedämpfende Elastomer-Einlage, Skala zur Überhangjustage, Nettogewicht 9,5 Gramm. Technische Daten: VTA 20°, Auflagekraft 12,5 mN, Gewicht 6,5 Gramm. Zum Betrieb ist ein guter Phonovorverstärker nötig, möglichst mit einstellbarer Verstärkung, das Technics zählt mit nur 2,0 mV zu den sehr leisen MMs. System und Headshell sind in gutem und unbeschädigten Zustand. Der Vorbesitzer hat die abgenutzte Original-Nadel durch eine einfache Nachbaunadel ersetzt, danach war das Techncis kaum noch in Betrieb. Aktuell sind hochwertige Nachbaunadeln für das System erhältlich: gefasste Shibata oder nackte Jico-Ellipsen ab 160,- €, Jico SAS-Nadeln zu Preisen zwischen 270,- und 500,- €, je nach Nadelträger - Bor, Saphir oder Rubin.
