I tested the preamp, and I dont have anything XLR, a headphone or a turntable to test all functions properly. I dont know how to test the recording functions either. Volume and balance are smooth and quiet, switches seem to work properly I tested the phono input with a MP3 player set at a low level, and it sounded like expected in both channels There are a few blemishes, 2 small scratches in the top cover, a small dent on the right endcap and a small dent in the faceplate they are all in the pictures. An absolutely phenomenal DAC and amplifier combo with the matching HeadRoom Desktop Power Supply. I am the original owner and purchased the setup new from HeadRoom when they were still located in Bozeman, MT. All three pieces were designed and built by hand at HeadRoom in the USA! Everything will be very well packed into a single box with plenty of padding for each item and fully insured for the purchase price. Fully balanced DAC and amp. This setup can run basically any headphones with ease. Drives my HD-800s extremely well, even on the low gain setting. Tons of Class A power in single ended or balanced mode. Requires a L/R 3 pin XLR cable to connect headphones or a standard 1/4 stereo cable. The XLR output jacks on the amp also are combo jacks that also take standard 1/4 audio plugs. You can actually run two pair of 1/4 plug unbalanced headphones at a time! The entire setup is dead quiet at idle, no background noise. Extremely detailed and I honestly cant find any faults in the audio output. Its the most clear and well balanced sound I have ever heard with headphones. DAC has three inputs: coaxial, optical, and USB. The cover for the optical port doesnt fully close but doesnt affect operation of the unit. I mainly used the optical input which is why the cover sticks a bit. DAC has an input selector button on the front with indicator lights for bitrate and input, along with a rolloff filter selector and indicator for which filter is selected. Amplifier has two inputs: Stereo RCA jacks and 3 pin XLR left and right jacks. Amplifier also has a three position gain switch, input selector switch, crossfeed switch (HeadRooms proprietary crossfeed circuit which simulates how sound waves reach each ear from the opposite channel when listening to stereo speakers), a switch for turning the rear RCA outputs on and off, and the the volume control knob. There is very slight wear on the panel around the amps power switch on the back of the unit as shown in the closeup picture. As for the power supply, it has outputs for up to 6 different HeadRoom items. There is also a ground lift switch on the back of the unit if you run into any ground loop issues. Also, the power supply connectors it uses are 240 5 pin DIN connectors if you ever need to add more. This is another great example of made in America Wade amplifier. I just confirmed it’s working perfectly. It was reconditioned by the manufacturer here in Binghamton New York.
