The Sony STR-V4 is a sleek and powerful vintage receiver that was first introduced in 1978. At 55watts per channel it is a classic receiver that is the little brother of the Monster STR-V7. In the same series as the flagship model of Sony’s STR receiver lineup at the time, the STR-V4 combined Sony’s top engineering and technology into one very cool stereo. With its classy styling and restrained aesthetics, the STR-V4 exudes elegance. The brushed metal faceplate, with its chrome accents, and green glow of the tuning dial give the STR-V4 a polished, high-end look. The use of different textures and finishes for the knobs, meters, and display windows balanced functionality with sophisticated design. This unit has been carefully restored, lamps replaced with green LEDs, cheap veneer sides replaced with real walnut. At some point the original output devices were replaced with NTE92/93 pairs and it simply has stunning performance achieving over 75W RMS at the spec rated THD. At 55W this unit has better than 0.08% THD in my testing. It has dual output power VU meters, with right selectable to FM tuning signal strength, and a tuning center meter. It has an excellent FM tuner(as long as you use a 75Ohm to 300Ohm balun). It has a low distortion, In spec RIAA phono input for the vinyl enthusiast and 2 tape inputs for digital in line level use via a DAC or other sources. Supports 2 sets of 8Ohm speakers or 1 set of 4Ohm. This is one of those underrated gems with excellent DNA at a time when Sony was making its mark. Item turns on, I got sound from fm after it warms up. You have to turn volume up, down, it then goes on. Lately it has not worked. I can find no other issues. No major dents, all feet intact. To clarify there is now no sound.

Sony STR-V4 Vintage Stereo Receiver AM/FM Tuner SHOWN WORKING PSA: If you dont see a video in the listing try loading the listing in an incognito or private window, ebay seems to struggle to show videos when logged in. +Tested Working: The receiver powers up and sounds great, as far as I can tell all of the main functions and pots work as intended, AM/FM receiver even getting signal in our steel warehouse with no additional antenna attached. The lights that once lit up the display no longer seem to function, but the needles of the display move with no issues. The pots have a little bit of static in them when turned, but nothing that a little Deoxit wouldnt likely fix. (See video)+Physical Condition: The physical condition of this unit is great, aside from a pretty major blemish on the units top right front corner. Aside from that damage the rest of the unit is relatively scratch free and in great physical condition. The metal is shiny, with only a few minor scratches on the pots and face, but nothing particularly noticeable. All the labels on the face are still intact, with none being scratched off with age. Meanwhile the wood is relatively unscratched as well, with no major blemishes (aside from the previously mentioned corner). This is an excellent stereo receiver from the 80s when Sony was making really great hifi equipment.The sound produced here is fantastic, nice punchy and surprising amount of bass. It features a low pass filter which is great for removing high end frequencies to get you a cleaner sound and protect your speakers.Theres also a loudness filter which is equivalent to what modern systems would call automatic dynamic range to adjust your EQ for low level listening.Its a dual output 2 channel meaning you can hook up Stereo in 2 or 4 speakers or run them all in mono for more of an ambient/background listening room (ie what they do in cafes, hifi bars, etc.)You could also hook up one of the outputs to 1 or 2 subwoofers for a 2.1 or 2.2 set up.For inputs, theres an AM/FM receiver (antenna included).Phono input for a turntable/record player, (no preamp needed) that sounds great, comparable to my Ifi Zen Phono which is a $200 pre amp.Aux RCA input.Its a great receiver and probably something youd have to pay $300+ for in modern tech to match performance wise.
