New Sonos products would have an upgrade to the internal electronics hardware of its existing product lines that would allow them to run a software upgrade which until then was known simply as the Sonos App. The original Sonos app still exists today and remains supported by Sonos. This insured existing owners of these Sonos products would not be left into the dark by Sonos and could continue enjoy the functionality of their existing equipment. Once newer products starting in 2020 got released by Sonos, these unit had the option to run under the original Sonos Application now dubbed as version S1 , or could be owner upgraded to the newer release of the Sonos application know as the Sonos Application version S2. Where as currently these S2 will have available future features and services upgrades, whereas the S1 version hardware will not.
