Lovely Quad II Amplifier set. The collection comprises of 2x Quad II amplifiers, 1x Quad 22 Pre Amplifier and 1x Quad AM II tuner. The first Quad II is a very early example with a black case badge, the 2nd is a later example. It is common to find this as often original owners started with a mono setup and upgraded to stereo later. The Quad II amplifiers are both very clean and are understood to have previously lived in a radiogram cabinet. They have original GEC and Mullard valves. The Quad 22 is also in nice shape and comes with the Tape and Pickup adaptors on the back. The AM II, less commonly found also has surprsingly nice original paintwork. An original 2 pin Bulgin plug is provided for you to make up your own suitable mains lead. The units have been play tested and sound stunning. They have not been serviced and you might consider doing this before pressing them in to regular use. We havent powered on the AMII but will try and do so shortly and will report back. Quad 22 preamp and two Quad 2 power amps, plus Quad FM tuner. I got these from an electronics engineer friend, who’s had them under his bed for 30 years. I powered up the 22 and the 2s with a variac over a period of a few hours, and they work. The controls are scratchy and they could no doubt do with a good going over, but they’re fundamentally sound. I didn’t try the tuner. They look unrestored and un-buggered about with, so an excellent basis for someone who wants some top quality vintage hi fi kit. Three of the KT66s are GEC branded, the other is unmarked. I did consider restoring them with new electrolytics etc, but people seem to have differing ideas of what should and shouldnt be done with such revered amps, and what kind of components should be used. If I were keeping them Id use modern parts but some prefer period correct capacitors and the like, so, as I have no use for them Im selling them as is so the new owner can do as they please. Im happy to drive up to 100 miles for the cost of the diesel to meet a new owner. Id rather not ship them, but if you want to arrange a courier yourself with Interparcel or similar, I will pack them as well as I possibly can (valves removed and bubble wrapped).
