I’ve had this transport for many years, lent it to a relative for a few more, then got it back again. I modded it to increase performance and reliability. It has a Burson low jitter clock fed from a reworked power supply featuring low noise rectifier diodes. Also, ERS paper is used in critical areas on the circuit board. Mechanically, a geared pulley that was a major failure point has been replaced. (This part is used to open and close the tray). This model uses the highly regarded (but unfortunately discontinued) Philips CDM 9 Pro mechanism. It has been very reliable for several years, up until now. Lately, the unit will not read an inserted CD more than half the time. Im assuming this has to do with the laser getting weak. I get around this by “assisting” the CD after hitting the play button. With the cover off, I spin the CD by hand(!), essentially kick-starting it. After this, it can be paused and will play whatever track is desired, as long as you don’t hit stop. It’s inconvenient, but it works. Think of this CD transport like a turntable with a weak motor, and you’re in the ballpark. I’ve put up with this because I couldn’t find anything I could afford that performed close to the same level as this unit. A recent gift changed that, and it’s why I am selling this now, with the understanding of what owning this unit entails. Who knows how long it will continue to work this way…I can’t say. The clock alone, electronic parts, and heavy steel case have value on their own, so that is something to consider. This model was about $2,500 new, back around 1987 when it first came out. Comes with the original remote, but not the box or owner’s manual.
