A very nice DAC and Preamp combination. The unit is in near perfect cosmetic condition and has been part of my two channel system for just over three years. I would describe the sound as very detailed, natural and musical. The volume control is very transparent and does not distort the signal, which is great for listening either very quietly or when you want to crank up the volume. Having another DAC in my system for a few weeks reminded me of just how well the Stellar GainCell DAC handles all types of music. Everything sounds exactly like it should. Unfortunately after being discontinued, it looks like PS Audio is moving in the direction of separate (and much more expensive) components. They were selling refurbished Stellar GainCell DACs but I think those have all sold out, and for good reason. While you can still get them, this is one of the best deals in high end audio. I sold this recently but buyer received and told me the analogue inputs are not working correctly. The optical inputs are fine and sounds spectacular but something is wrong with the analogue inputs only. I was unaware because I myself used the DAC in the unit and connected it thru the toslink input. since listing the add I hooked up the analogue input #1 and it does seem there is a little noise in one channel but both channels did play. .  when placing the optical in back in the sound is again clean as it should be.  unit is otherwise clean and mint.  price reflects possible issue. if you dont need analogue this is a nice piece of gear.  if it doesnt sell it will remain in the system where it is now.  I will get a video soon to show its playing in digital. For this reason it’s reduced and as is. I’m going to double check again but at this point this is priced as an optical input only DAC / preamp. Again! The unit works fine using the coaxial optical or toslink optical inputs. The analogue output works as it should also. The problem has something to do with analogue INPUTS. I will be uploading a video of it working ASAP.
