But after the PS Audio Stellar GainCell Preamp/DAC is repaired, or if you just want to use the left channel... Then you will have a very nice DAC and Preamp combination. The unit is in near perfect cosmetic condition and has been part of my two channel system for just over three years. I would describe the sound as very detailed, natural and musical. The volume control is very transparent and does not distort the signal, which is great for listening either very quietly or when you want to crank up the volume. Unfortunately PS Audio has discontinued the GainCell DAC and is replacing it with the Stellar DAC and I assume at some point, a Stellar Preamplifier as separate components. The Stellar GainCell DAC was one of the best values in high end audio and soon it is probably going to be difficult to find these on the used market. On the bright side, the PS Audio customer service is based here in the USA, so getting older equipment serviced is no problem at all. The estimated repair cost from the manufacturer is $250, which makes this the most cost effective way to get one of these, with the added bonus of having the manufacturer inspect it before they send it back to your home.
