Pioneer SX-680 in semi-working condition. The right channel is distorted and choppy. I already replaced the IC and it worked fine for a couple of days. The faceplate has obvious signs of use. The veneer on top of the left side panel started to peel off so I placed black brushed steel tape on both panels. I did replace the old bulbs with new LED lamps.

This was my brother’s unit which I had given him and it had served him for many years. One day I get a call saying “hey my stereo’s not working can you look at it” and so I go and replace it with another thing I had laying around so I can take this one home and analyze it. And then I saw what you are seeing. There must’ve been some sort of catastrophic failure at the filter capacitors which torched the board and most of the things around it. This type of repair is beyond what I consider feasible and the cheapest main board I could find was 100$ so I don’t really feel like it and I’m just gonna try and sell it and see what I get. I would throw it away but the price on these has gone through the roof and I don’t want to waste something like this. There’s a lot of good parts on it yet like the main amp chips (stk 0039), tuner board, etc. The wooden case is kind of trash though. Take the shipping price with a grain of salt as eBay usually gives me a 30% discount on shipping at seller checkout when shipping big heavy things and I will give it back to you as a partial refund Feel free to ask any questions.

This listing is for a working pioneer SX-680 stereo receiver and amplifier. It is in excellent working condition and I have cleaned all the potentiometers and switches. The veneer is a little worse for wear. It has some bubbles, loose spots, and is missing in a few places. It does have a few very small dings on the front bezel. See photos for more info. It’s really not too bad for it’s age and the veneer is a very common issue on this era of pioneer receivers. I was eventually going to replace the veneer, but decided it wasn’t bad enough yet. It is 100% functional and sounds great!

Great vintage piece of audio equipment. This is being sold as a Parts only unit. It powers on and lights up, but I could only get headphone audio out of one channel. I didnt test further. The knobs all function smoothly and the unit itself is pretty clean. The veneer has started peeling of the face, top and sides and will need to be replaced. Please see photos for condition.
