I purchased the unit a few years back along with the Preamplifier. My hopes was to slowly aquire the full rack set. Meanwhile my preamp has some issues and I havent been able to track down the rest of the set. I know the remote is one of the harder pieces to aquire so I thought I had a leg up on the goal. Nakamichi 610 Control Preamp,including Dust Cover and Operating manual I purchased this unit back in the late 70s and used it until the mid 90s. its been stored in my closet ever since. Preamp was working fine, but I replaced it with a Harmon Kardon Signature 2.0 Audio Video processor preamp since Video was starting to become part of the home environment. Given its ability to act as a mixer, I set it up recently to capture and mix down some records and old tapes... doing that reminded me how good this preamp really was.. especially the phono stages.. very clean and detailed. That said, I no longer have a use for it and figured its time to find a new home and let someone else to enjoy this classic preamp. It is a solidly built unit with loads of flexibility. Review the photos to get a sense of its cosmetic condition. As youll see some of the lettering has worn off and there are some minor scratches, both on the face plate and the accompanying dust cover. Audio wise, there was some minor raspiness to the potentiometers when I first turned it on, but that has gone away with use. All the buttons have positive engagement, the tone generators work, VU meters light up and function smoothly, and both phono stages seem just fine. The one issue I found was on tape input 1. the right input was intermittent and required you to jiggle the connector for it to hold signal. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case, even when you move the connector around, you cant recover the signal. My guess is the female connector on the chassis disconnected / went bad and needs to be replaced. I say this because there was no apparent distortion when the signal was present, so it didnt seem like a component was failing.. but thats just my guess. THE GOOD NEWS is that this unit can handle 3 tape decks and those other 2 positions work just fine. I havent checked every input or possible combination of mixing scenario, but I can tell you it was working when initially put away, stored in a smoke free home, and performed as stated when recently hooked up. That said, and as anyone who knows vintage electronics, capacitors do age or other components might fail and need replacing, so it is being sold as is, no return. Well known preamplifier from Nakamichi, part of Nelson Pass designed series. Works perfect, no hum, no noise. Phono section is fantastic, one of the best Ive heard. 220 volts European version.

Tested phono MM and line inputs and outputs--everything working normally (except Aux2 as stated above). Took better pictures and with additional cleaning could be even better--I didnt clean the buttons or knobs.

Please look else where for deals on the CA 7A ( I suspect you have not understood the value of this Preamp - its phono amplifier (for MC cartridge) rivals $multi thousand phono-only preamplifiers) one would be an Electronic Audio Engineer to understand it’s value. It will come with power chord/ printed user manual (CA 7A) and small guide to using the remote. The remote Volume button will remotely change the volume…mute button also will mute. Channel selection is by pressing number 1 to 8 exactly similar to the OM remote. If you happen to have CR 7A cassette recorder with proper connecting cable, this remote can control CR 7A like the original. Since I do not have the specific cable, I could not test it. I have not used any chemicals -( I do not recommend it) - inside this preamplifier. The unique manual or remote controlled volume knob is a high- quality sealed potentiometer- requiring no maintenance, no pot cleaner...( DeOxit is not solution for all). Also some of the Potentiometers used in this are actually high quality multi- position switches connected to high quality resistors. This was the absolute top of the line of the Preamplifiers in its day. (Thusly, not many realize the value of this preamplifier). It uses… not easily obtainable… Toshiba FET's ( the value of these… along with Potentiameter… would cost more than $ 1000, should one attempt to buy them today). Its power supply are dual independent transformers/rectifiers/caps/ and diodes… along with PS regulators. Listen to this alone without any other components in between solely quality power amplifier… and let me know how it sounds. It has three band tone controls with minimal boost/cut subliminally adjusting the sound quality into excellent (when room or individual hearing may calls for tweaked tone levels). Have a good time with it- use the 3- prong power connector with proper ground for safety. You can keep it functioning on standby, by pressing the remote power button …after you manually push the power button. WITH REMOTE.
