By design, the Nakamichi Stasis amplifiers were quite different from conventional designs that used global feedback. Without getting into technical details, these amplifiers are inherently stable with any load and always maintain uniform output impedance with no distortion. Because it has no negative feedback it has no distortion. To supply the demand for power, this PA-7A used a massive 700 watt toridal transformer and will deliver up to 50 amps of current per channel. 16 output transistors per channel provide the power to drive any speaker you choose. I probably should have started with the fact the Nelson Pass designed these amplifiers. He personally holds more amplifier design than anyone or any company on the planet. He loves to bias his designs to run slightly into pure class-A territory. This amp is no different and has a smooth, warmth that draws you into the music. This amp is the MK II and they refined some of the interior layout and power supply lines. Also fixed the protection issue and the overheating problems. This may be one of the best values youll find in a truly audiophile power amp. Nakamichi used slightly better components than the similar Thresholds so listeners prefer the Nakamichis. I am trying to sell of this whole Nakamichi 7 Series Stack PA-7 CA-7 OMS-7AII ST-7 for as less as possible as i need funds immediately. I bought from my friends collection who gave it to me several months ago. PA-7 : Both channels are recapped except the main caps still original as they work fine. Surge protection circuit was also rebuilt with new thermal fuses. Thermal paste is replaced and cleaned the unit inside out. BIAS is set at 40ma with heatsinks running at good temperature around 40C. CA-7 : Unit functions good and has a after market remote but it has all the exact functions with proper naming. If you have DIN cable for remote function you can control Devices like OMS-7s OMS-5s ST-7, CR-&A, Dragon and many more tape decks, also remote can adjust manual Azimuth in CR-7s. Only one button is missing but i am trying to using a button from OMS-5 to get this missing button added. OMS-7AII : Replaced belt and everything functioning properly all keys works ST-7 : i played both FM and AM and both play good, auto seek is working perfectly as well as manual tuning. While the later II version also used Stasis technology, Mr. Pass stated in his Stereophile interview that his design was the original, not the later version. The result?… What is essentially a Threshold power amplifier but way better looking and less than half the price.They were supposed to just license his STASIS technology, which combines the benefits of Class A amplification without the drawbacks (runs stupid hot = very low reliability) into a hybrid Class A/Class AB power amplifier with optical bias. Well, they didn’t just license STASIS. Rather, the first generation of the PA-7 is a direct copy of the equivalent Threshold amp (S300 II). A lawsuit ensues, then Nakamichi releases the PA-7II with an altered design providing 25 more WPC (watts per channel) and a higher price tag. But everyone knew then and knows now that the original PA-7 was, “the one to get”. The PA-7 delivers 200 watts per channel, uses no overall negative feedback (a Pass trademark), and boasts the Stasis section, which consists of a low-power voltage amplifier coupled to the current mirror bootstrap output stage to do all the heavy lifting required for high-power output.Back in 1989, when Stereo Review featured the PA-7, writer Julian Hirsch measured the PA-7’s output at 253 watts into an 8-ohm load, 400 watts into a 4-ohm load, and 650 watts into two ohms.
