Triple stack, consisting of the DAC, the Tube Buffer and the power supply for both. With the two power supply cables from the power supply to each active unit - one for the Dac, and one for the tube buffer. thoughtfully re-capped with premium and nonmagnetic film caps (the big blue ones), and opamps socketed for easier upgrading. COSMETICS ARE EXCELLENT. NO OBVIOUS FLAWS ON THE DAC. THE X-PSU POWER SUPPLY HAS A SMALL FLAW AT THE REAR CORNER ON ONE FIN.....WHICH I BELIEVE WAS A FACTORY DEFECT. ITS ONLY VISIBLE FROM THE REAR. THE X-PSU-V3 POWER SUPPLY IS ORIGINAL AND UNMOLESTED. ITS JUST AN OVERSIZE TRANSFORMER THAT ALLOWS YOU TO CONNECT OTHER V3 COMPONENTS INTO ONE POWER SUPPLY. I FELT IT DID PERFORM BEST WHEN ONLY 2 COMPONENTS MAXIMUM WERE CONNECTED.3 POWER CONNECTOR CORDS FOR ADDITIONAL UNITS ARE INCLUDED. ONE CORD IS MISSING AND HAS DISAPPEARED. A NEW AC POWER CARD IS INCLUDED. THE X-DAC-V3 HAS HAD SIGNIFICANT COMPONENT UPGRADES. THESE MODS WERE INSPIRED BY AN ARTICLE ON THE BURSON AUDIO WEBSITE BACK WHEN THEY FIRST INTRODUCED (HDAM) DISCRETE OP-AMPS, A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO. SOME UPGRADES WERE TAKEN FROM THE ARTICLE. OTHER UPGRADES WERE MINE. THE DAC POWER SUPPLY CAPACITANCE WAS VASTLY INCREASED USING NICHICON MUSE AUDIO GRADE CAPS. CARE WAS TAKEN TO INSURE THE (STACK OF) CAPS WERE SOLIDLY MOUNTED TO REDUCE/ELIMINATE ANY VIBRATIONAL EFFECT. THE STANDARD BRIDGE RECTIFIER WAS REPLACED WITH INDIVIDUAL HYPER-FAST/SOFT RECOVERY DIODES. ALL OTHER ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS WERE REPLACED WITH SANYO OS-CON POLYMER AND ELNA SILMIC II AS THE APPLICATION REQUIRED. NON-POLAR CAPS WERE REPLACED WITH (A LARGE NUMBER OF) WIMA POLYPROPYLENE FILM AND OTHER POLYPROPYLENE FILM CAPS. POLYPROPYLENE BY-PASS CAPACITORS WERE ADDITIONALLY INSTALLED UNDERNEATH THE CIRCUIT BOARD AS NEEDED. AT THE ANALOG OUTPUT, THE 2 ELECTROLYTIC NON-POLAR CAPS WERE REPLACED WITH NICHICON MUSE, BY-PASSED WITH POLYPROPYLENE FILM/FOIL CAPACITORS. THE RCA OUTPUT JACKS ARE CONNECTED WITH SHIELDED SILVER PLATED WIRING. HEATSINKS WERE INSTALLED ON SURFACE MOUNTED ICS AND MICRO PROCESSORS. LASTLY, I DID INSTALL SOME BURSON DISCRETE OP-AMPS, BUT LATER REMOVED THEM. WHILE THE OP-AMPS DID SLIGHTLY ALTER THE SOUND, I COULD NOT DEFINITIVELY STATE THERE WAS AN ACTUAL IMPROVEMENT AND WORTH THE ADDITIONAL COST IN THIS APPLICATION. THE VAST MAJORITY OF AUDIBLE SOUND/PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS CAME FROM THE COMPONENT UPGRADES THAT WERE COMPLETED FIRST. NOT THE INSTALLATION OF THE DISCRETE OP-AMPS, THAT WERE INSTALLED LAST. THE ORIGINAL 5532 OP-AMPS ARE INSTALLED IN SOCKETS AND CAN BE EASILY REPLACED IF, SHOULD THE BUYER WANT TO EXPERIMENT WITH OTHER OP-AMPS/HDAMS. THIS UPGRADED V3-DAC AND POWER SUPPLY COMBO PROVIDES A SMOOTH ANALOG SOUND THAT RIVALS NEWER, OR MORE EXPENSIVE DACS.
