I still believe CDs in 44.1k are at their best when played via Non oversampling dac. It just sounds more analog, natural, and fatigue-free. This will be a great option for anyone out there who already has a main dac or owns a cd transport. This dac will offer something different. Just spare one of your rca inputs for this dac and you will experience a sound, something unique to NOS dac with only $899. Plus the Octave dac and the power supply are very small. They take up only a few inches of space. I am only selling this dac since I purchased a much more expensive NOS dac recently. Overall, it is a very clean unit and functions excellently. You will find some scratches on the bottom of the power supply (but not visible at all unless it is being used upside down). Non Over-Sampling Octave is a continuation of the Duo/Quad Mini Digital to Analogue converter. No processing (Resampling) is involved - the D/A chips used, being sourced from the (Non Audio) Medical/Industrial sector. The Game Changer ! These chipsets offer more robust and very fast data acquisition abilities, without artefacts. Standard off the shelf chipsets, found almost everywhere else in the Audio industry, offer sound which tends to sound the same. This is why many Dacs sound the same or sound very similar. No digital filtering is applied and this combined with NOS techniques, provides a very clean, detailed soundstage, with considerable depth. It also accounts for the natural and very analogue like sound many people relate to, when auditioning. Octave features a heavy 15VA (14VA initially) power supply, switchable for both 115VA AC and 230VA AC mains. The power from the dual Toroidal transformers is rectified in the Dac and then smoothed by 26 Capacitors equivalent capacity 12,000 uF. Each channel utilises 4 industrial grade chipsets with their own regulators. This approach improves channel separation, avoiding crossover influence. It also sees an improvement in noise floor levels. Furthermore, the output from these chips, is far more robust and does not require an output stage thus reducing interruptions to the signal path. The signal in fact, goes direct to the connectors, avoiding problems associated with output stages. All 3 are musically pleasing and involving when listening to digital music, with the Metrum being a bargain considering price and performance level .. the Mini Dac is incredibly good for the money and gets my vote for being currently the ultimate bargain in audio. TNT Audio :Basically the digital signal goes straight into the DAC chips, then straight to the output connectors. No messing with sample rate converters, complicated filters and fancy output stages. If you like you DAC straight and simple then nothing will beat this. It immediately makes a good impression. The sound is warm, focussed, clean and basically without any obvious flaws. Octave will appeal very much to people with preference that goes in the Vinyl direction, as this is one of the most analogue sounding DACs I know. But for the asking price it is quite amazing ... Selling my Metrum Acoustics Amethyst (120v) with both DAC3 and DAC2 modules. Easy to swap to your preferred sound (just need a small hex key allen wrench to pop off the top). To my ears, DAC3 provides a noticeably higher resolution sound, increasing the soundstage and filling out the highest and lowest parts of the spectrum, but DAC2 still has a bit of analog warmth and charm. This unit was sent directly to Metrum Acoustics in October 2022 for the DAC3 upgrade and to get everything checked out and confirm everything is in perfect working order. There is a small fleck on the volume dial (shown in a close-up photo) as well as a small nick on one of the corners of the face plate (also see close-up photo). Otherwise, the unit is in excellent condition, as it was used lightly. Im selling because Im slowly stepping away from audio, as work and family have begun to take up more and more of my time. Up for sale my Metrum Pavane with dac 3 in mint conditions without cosmetic flaws. Needless to say it works perfectly and sounds amazing. It was bought in 2018 as level 3 and upgraded by Metrum in late 2021 with new digital board, 8 dac3 converters and mqa module (not installed). The upgrade costed 2674 euros (all the receipt are available). I still have the old dacs and digital board as spares). It has i2s input (no usb). For sale is the amazing Metrum Acoustics Adagio DAC and pre-amplifier. This is in as new condition and the only visible marks are on the base where it has sat on Panzerholtz ball bearing feet, otherwise I looked hard to see any marks and couldnt.This is an ex-dem model and only used to demonstrate the use connected directly to power amps etc. Comes with all the original box and extras including the i2S module. Retail for this is now around £5400 and having heard many more expensive DACs, this is still an amazing DAC especially if you just want to connect this to power amps. Very analogue and organic sound.
