This is a head amp. It allows an MC cartridge to be used with a MM phono stage or preamplifier. It does not amplify the signal enough to be used alone. Great for low output MC cartridges. It has some previous battery corrosion (as pictured) but it works perfectly. The head of one screw previously snapped off and I have not attempted to extract it yet. I have a new preamplifier which will handle MC cartridges on its own (although it doesn’t have the gain of the JC-1) so I’m letting this go. This is an all original vintage component. As such component failure cannot be predicted and I make no guarantees that it sounds as good as it once did. I have had issues in the past with buyers using the the return policy as a test drive. If you are not sure if a piece of vintage gear will satisfy your needs, please do not purchase. Please feel free to ask any questions.

This is a legendary preamp designed by John Curl and built in the USA by Mark Levinson. These rarely come on the market.It’s a 2-piece preamp with the power supply in a separate housing to reduce interference between the power supply circuits and the audio circuits. Inside you’ll find custom made modules for the input and output stages. You’ll also notice the super high quality potentiometers and switches. Some early Mark Levinson products used Camac connectors which are very hard to find, but this Mark Levinson JC-2 uses industry-standard RCA input and output connectors for easy compatibility in almost any system. All functions work as they should and has been tested on Sound Technology test gear to confirm proper operation on all inputs and outputs.
