This generation of Alpair 10 utilises a new ultra thin wall coil. Together with further modifications to the cone, this latest model delivers usable frequency range up to 25-kHz while retaining its “purist” single cone design.This driver retains the multi-form cone technology with a new more efficient profile giving improved high range performance. Design modifications to the Gen.3?s cone?s neck, together with the lighter coil deliver a better off axis response in the 15 degree region. Central stereo imaging and box angle placements benefit from the these improvements.The Gen.3 version houses an “Arrestor” in the magnet sub-assembly, a device that helps to avoid damage from over-load situations. For those users who like to add low frequency gain, the Gen.3?s power-train (cone, coil and suspensions) design retains the “long throw” design feature. While this driver is not deigned for continuous heavy loads, the Gen.3 is capable of handling variable bass load outputs from from most typical and popular forms of music.The Gen.3 retains the audible smoothness of its predecessors while adding usable bandwidth, improved SPL and additional scope for optimising room placement of the box system.

However this is the first time that a paper cone version has appeared in the 10 series. The cone is the most radical shallow design Markaudio has produced so far this size of driver. To maintain its stability, the materials used include an arrangement of glassreinforced fibres. The dispersion characteristic is ultra wide. The 10P is frequency range capable to +25-kHz with an efficiency of 89.5dB. These efficiencies were achieved by considerable design efforts to reduce mass. The 10P?s power train under moving mass conditions is less 5.2g while retaining Markaudio?s “long throw” design feature. The coil winding is “high stress” type forming the tight band arrangement on its body. The result is one of the lightest coils deployed is this size class, weighing under 2.2g. The power-train suspension compliance is extremely sensitive. Capable of large extension for this class of Full-Range audio driver (7-mm 1 way, limited by the Arrestor). Mark Audio Alpair 10P 6 paper-cone full range drivers in excellent condition...see pics. I bought these a few years ago and used them for about a year. They have not been overdriven or abused in any way and should be as good as new. Current retail price is $220/pair.
