Personally, I found the powerful, clear sound of this amplifier, which stands out compared to my previous McIntosh equipment, to be particularly appealing. It operates in Class A mode, and the beautiful blue level meters enhance its aesthetic. It handles large speakers effortlessly. The amplifier has experienced two malfunctions in the past, which were repaired and maintained; please refer to the part replacement images for details. Notably, a representative from Marantz advised that due to high heat production in Class A mode, it is best to use it during cold winter months to prolong its lifespan. Since then, it has only been used during winter, approximately three times a week for 1-2 hours each time, resulting in minimal internal component degradation. Marantz SM-80 Power Amplifier 200 Watts, Endstufe, Parts Or Repair!. See pictures for the exact cosmetic condition of the amplifier. It turns on but there is no relay click. I have checked the transistors and none seem to be shorted. There is some rust inside of one of the bias pot meters. (See pictures). I didnt do any repair attempts to this amplifier aside from spraying the bias pot with some contact spray which sadly didnt work. Please review the pictures of the insides in order to draw your own conclusion. The cover has some dents. Please note that I have two sm-80 power amplifiers which appear to have the same fault. So be mindful of this when deciding whether to purchase this unit or not.
