Hafler DH-101Pre-amplifier (Rare UK Version, Working) + Instruction booklet I’ve at long last decided to sell my lovely DH101 Hafler pre-amp which I’ve owned from new in 1979. This was the first of a line of very good sounding pre-amps and amplifiers from the USA Hafler company. Hasn’t been used for a while but checked it out and it it still sounds great (checked Aux, Tuner and PU inputs). As can be seen from the photos it’s cosmetically in good condition – a few small chips and scratches on the casing but the front panel is great. I have made a few modifications over the years which reflect improvements Hafler made in later models like the DH 110. Whilst these detract from originality they do make it much more usable. - Added a turn-on muting circuit to silence a huge thump that otherwise occurs if switched to the pick-up input when turned on (this was a design problem with the circuit they used, not a fault in this unit ) - Added bypass capacitors to the un-polarised capacitors in the signal path (seemed to improve the definition of the sound). - “Aux” input has internal attenuator to make it more appropriate for CD player output levels - Changed the original US power outlets to safer IEC sockets (avoids unsheathed pins carrying 240v) It seems to work fine and sounds lovely but it is “classic” and I’m aware of two problems that are likely to be found in equipment of this age/era. - The balance control is a bit flaky when one goes off central balance - The original 1970’s input sockets that Hafler fitted are not the greatest and sometimes need attention.Complete with Instruction and Assembly booklet.
