The Empire 980 tonearm combines the two most sought after qualities in arm design, free suspension and perfect dynamic balance. Perfect dynamic balance is achieved by placing the pivot points at the precise centre of the arms mass. Once in balance in one plane, it is balanced in all planes. Even the application of stylus force does not upset this balance, for in the 980 the force is not adjusted by moving a counterweight, and thus shifting the centre of mass. A linear torque coil spring acts directly on the pivot shaft at the centre of the arms mass and stylus force is dialled in with a calibrated knob. For sale is a tonearm cable for the Empire 980 tonearm, appearing on the Empire 398, 498, and sold individually as well. The cable does NOT work, so it is being sold for parts/as is. Perhaps the connector could possibly be salvaged to make a new cable? I never could get a signal to pass through it, and never spent much time trying to figure out why.

Empire 4000 D/1 Cartridge & Denon Headshell For Turntable Tonearm Tested & Works

Offered is a near complete BIC series 960 turntable tonearm assembly (missing the M2.5 thumb screw, but a nut works as well) in very good condition. There is a Empire OP2 cartridge and stylus which works (it tracks and plays well enough) but the actual condition of the stylus needle is unknown (you should assume it has wear). The OP2 stylus has some value but, if you dont want it, then just make an offer for the tonearm assembly alone. A question was submitted, whether the tonearms tracking and antiskate adjustment sliders were loose.Answer: The antiskate adjuster moves slightly more easily than the stylus force. The moment to lower number feels as if there is slightly less resistance than in the opposite direction. In both cases the black plastic clip takes a slight bit of force before it slides and this release movement is sudden, especially if you use just one finger. Thereafter the motion is smooth. In my opinion, it certainly isnt floppy but I really dont know how tight it was when new. Note: Refer to the third photo. This antiskate/stylus force ring is a thin ribbon of sheet metal. There is a slight bend in the metal just past the 4 on the stylus force side. It is only a cosmetic issue. This item comes with a 30 day return; buyer pays return shipping. Thanks for looking.
