This NAD C316BEE has been upgraded with new Main Caps, new audio coupling caps, a new speaker relay, and a custom Preamp Output for use with a powered subwoofer, external power amp, etc. The Preamp Output is provided by a spare Op-Amp in each channel configured as a non-inverting buffer such that there is no load presented to the original signal path. The existing Tape Output path already had On/Off Muting suitable for a Preamp Out, and it works great with my Boston HD-5 satellites and my Velodyne subwoofer. Im also including a learning 6 button remote that is programmed to control Power ON (but not OFF), Volume UP/DOWN, Mute ON/OFF, plus Source Selections for DISC (or MP) and AUX. I can also reprogram it as requested. The original infamous SAMXON Main caps were below spec, so I replaced them with nichicon 105C. The original JH caps are 105C rated and test fine, but since there were only a half dozen electrolytic inter-stage audio coupling caps, I upgraded them all to nichicon Fine Gold. I also installed a new speaker relay for good measure, since it is a common failure. There are two Power Amp Bias adjustments per channel (Coarse and Fine) that I replaced with a single multi-turn equivalent. The slightest tweak to the original Coarse adjustment could set things way off, while the multi-turn provides the same accuracy without concern for vibration or accidental disturbance. Soundcraftsmen DX4000 preamp from the mid 80s. This box has more switching than you can shake a stick at! There are two tape loops with switching to dub between them, three signal processor loops (2 in back, 1 in front), two headphone jacks, three line level inputs and a moving magnet phono input. It even has a set of outputs to drive two power amps in bridged mono mode! It also has four convenience power outlets on the back. It has been fully recapped with mostly Nichicon electrolytics and film caps in phono preamp board, all switches resoldered, op-amps replaced with newly manufactured parts, and +/-15V regulator added to power the op-amps (original regulators, still in place, power the phono preamp board only, as they did in 1988). All I/Os tested and working fine, no noise from volume or balance pots. Its working as well as new, probably better with the added voltage regulators. As you can see, the pushbutton caps are not the original black parts, but are 3D printed. The case has some scratches and a couple small rust spots, but so would you, if you were made in the 80s. The Power Supply Main caps have been upgraded to 63V nichicon, while the others are Panasonic, Chemicon, etc. For added versatility, I have repurposed the (fixed line level) Tape Output RCA Jacks to be (variable level) Preamp Outputs suitable for a powered Subwoofer, external Power Amp, etc. Im also including a new 6-button learning remote programmed for Mute On/Off, Volume Up/Down, and 3 Input Selects DISC, CD, and AUX. A very nice fully functional Nikko Beta II preamp that has been recapped using Nichicon audio grade caps.The faceplate is in nice shape with a few minor nicks on top. It has not been racked. See pictures. The top case is in good shape with some light scratches on the front and sides. Overall, the unit presents very well. One of Nikkos best preamps with a very nice phono stage that will allow two turntables and two amplifiers. Overall, there are connections for two amplifiers, two tape units, two turntables, tuner and auxillary. The unit has a nice audio muting feature that will give you a lot of volume flexibility. A real nice sounding preamp on par with the other preamps from the 70s by Sansui, Marantz, Yamaha and others. it will be carefully boxed to avoid any shipping abuse and sent in one business day or less.
