Description
The is one set USED DYNAVECTOR PE-1 Phono Enhancer, Made in Japan. Condition: 9/10 Dynavector Phono Enhancer DY PE-I Instruction Manual DV PE-I is the original product by Dynavector based on the entirely brand-new idea which is patent applied for. Therefore you must carefully read this instruction before the use.You should give special attention to switching the knobs in the front panel to get the correct operation according to the cartridge under use. 1. What is the Phono Enhancer? The name itself of Phono Enhancer is the new terminology originated by Dynavector, because the operational principle of PE-I does not belong to any other idea of existing normal hi-fi technique. The most important factors in reproducing music like the natural ambience, the correct dynamism, the smooth and comfortable harmonies, so and so are easily overlooked by the conventional signal amplification of the cartridge output voltage. As you already know very well, there are many expensive and high performance head amplifiers or step up transformers for MC cartridges. They are designed as to amplify the very low output voltage of MC ·cartridges as much exactly as possible. On the contrary in DV PE-I the maximum current is extracted from the cartridge by the patent-applied active electronic circuit, then this current is converted to the voltage which is enough to drive the conventional preamplifier. In the case of DY PE-I, the current sensitivity of the cartridge is the first coming factor. Usually, the moving magnet cartridge, moving iron cartridge or the high output MC cartridge has rather poor current sensitivity, in other words, the extremely faint current comes out from these cartridges in the case of the conventional voltage amplification. However, the DV PE-ls active circuit draws the current of almost 1,000 times as much from these cartridges compared to the conventional amplification. In the case of the low output MC cartridges, the current sensitivity is not so small as in above cartridges. The, DV PE-I in this case draws the current of 20 - 100 times as much compared to the conventional amplification. Above description can be explained in another way as that the cartridge output is terminated equivalently by negative ohms or at least zero ohm when DY PE-I is used. The superiority of DYPE-ls current maximization idea OVEir. Other conventional voltage amplifier is the very low distortion caused by the irregular character of the magnetic materials of the cartridge even in the very low frequency range. This is clearly proved and clarified by the mathematical theory or your own ACTUAL LISTENING! In addition to such a feature of DV PE-I, another remarkable advantage of DV PE-I is the perfect compatibility to any type of cartridge. Regardless to the type or the output voltage, any cartridge can sound much better than by the existing normal amplification thanks to the current maximizing circuit of DV PE-I.In DY PE-I there is the switch position saying PASS. By set ting PASS, you can hear the sound which is reproduced by the normal voltage output condition of the cartridge. You can easily recognize the significant difference between voltage and current amplification. You will begin to understand that almost all MM or MI cartridges have much more beautiful sound and musicality by the use of DV PE-I than being considered ever. You must try to hear again the cartridges which probably are considered obsolete or useless and not used after the recent trend of MC fever. Usually MM or MI cartridge does need neither head amplifier nor transformer, but now you understand that as long as you want the better sound quality, the solution for cartridge is the current maximization, that is, DY PE-I is the only one equipment to meet this difficult requirement. After hearing these cartridges by using DY PE-I, you must be surprised by the remarkable sound character change of these cartridges being considered out of date. DV PE-I has another outstanding feature as well as the current maximization. That is the phase shifting circuit. By this phase shifter the phase angle of the lower frequency advances proportionally from the higher frequency. In other words, the lower the frequency the phase angle advances more. However the gain is maintained 0 dB throughout entire frequency range. This phase shifting circuit is incorporated for cancelling or reducing the time delay which is inherently arising in the low frequency sound radiation from woofer by the dispersion phenomena of the bending vibration of the speaker cone diaphragm and the reluctant transient response of the combinated condition of the speaker and the enclosure volume. But if you use Dynavector Phase Shifter DV PS-I together with DV PE-I, the phase shifting effect is more accelerated and you will be astonished to know that the combination of DV PE-I and DV PS-I makes the sound of the analog discs more beautiful and realistic than CD discs. We are sure that your CD syndromes disappear in a moment. DV PE-I should be installed as shown by the figure below. Output of Cartridge ?? DV PE-I ?? MM Phono Input of Preamplifier 2. Panel Notification Caution: Each select switch must be switched when the preamplifier is in muting position. 3. ConnectionsDV PE-I might pick up hum noise when it is located near to power supply transformer of amplifiers or near to motor of tape decks. Please set DV PE-I keeping some distances from the aboves. 3-1.Input TerminalOutput of cart ridge must be input to this terminals. Al l the moving magnet, moving iron and moving coil cartridge can be used. 3-2.Output TerminalOutput of DV PE-I should be directly connected to the MM phono input of the preamplifier. No head amplifier nor step up transformer should be placed between.Output voltage level is adjusted to the appropriate level of the preamplifier automatically regardless to the type of the cartridge used. 3-3.Power Supply UnitPlease connect AC plugs to power source first prior to switch on the PE-I.Confirm that your preamplifier is in muting position or in minimum volume position before the PE-I is switched on. Power supply unit contains a transformer which generates AC 18V from power source. Depending on the location of the power supply unit, hum noise will be caused. In such case please keep the power supply unit some distance from the main unit. 4. OperationsTwo select switches are installed in order to extract the most effective current amplifications in each type of cartridge. Therefore please be careful whet her the cartridge and its switches are in correspondent positions. 4-1.Pick Up Select SwitchSwitch to the appropriate positon to the cartridge you use.Al most all the cartridges are divided into the listed three types although manufacturer might use the individual naming. Please refer to the cartridge brand and the switch positon list in the table -I. 4-2.Mode Selector Switch [HIGH] [LOW] This switch is used for selecting the output voltage of the cartridge. When the cartridge has higher output voltage than lmV, the switch must be turned to [HIGH] position. In case of lower than lmV, [LOW] position must be selected. For moving magnet and moving iron cartridges, this position always must .be in [HIGH] except for the particular MM cartridge. For the particular MM cartridge having low output, [LOW] should be selected. [PASS] In order to com pare the current amplification effect, [PASS] position is installed. Output and input terminal is directly connected in [PASS] position bypassing the circuit inside. 4.3.How to select the switch positons. By selecting the combination of two switches on DV PE-I, any cartridge can work by its optimum current condition. In this case you are not required to worry about the optimum load impedance of the cartridge as usual. Putting the output of the cartridge to the input terminal of DV PE-I is enough. For instance, when you like to use Shure Vl5 Type 4 cartridge, Phono selecting switch is turned to MM and Mode selecting switch is turned to HIGH because this cartridge is the moving magnet cartridge (MM) and the output voltage is HIGH. As the exception some special MM cartridges have low output voltage. In this case PHONO switch is MM and MODE switch is LOW. For other cases, please make use of Table-I for selecting the switch positions. In this table, almost all famous cartridges of each type are listed for your reference. If you cannot find your cartridge from this table, you can possibly find the correct switch positions by your own listening trial. When you want to turn the switch to another position, you should turn down the volume control of the preamplifier or switch on the muting devices of the preamplifier. If you like to use GRADO cartridge, you may use the switch position of MC, HIGH as the compromise because the time constant of this cartridge is rather isolated. But if you wish, the ·correct adjustment for GRADO is accepted by the additional charge to Dynavector.
