For sale is a Dynaco Super PAS Three preamp, the Audio by Van Alstine total rebuild. I purchased this unit because I had a vintage Dynaco PAS 3X preamp which required so much work to make it listenable that I just gave up and purchased this plug and play version instead. Its a night and day improvement over the stock Dynaco. Gone is the noise, the veil, the clunky knobs and controls on the stock Dynaco PAS. This is the 1988 version of the acclaimed Super PAS Three from Audio by Van Alstine (AVA). Everything inside the chassis has been updated: both PC 5 and PC 6 circuit boards, the volume and balance pots, a new ceramic selector switch and the jacks. The faceplate is the AVA solid silver version with no holes for tone controls. The wiring on this unit is much cleaner than on the vintage PAS. I believe that small things like this matter (less crosstalk, less noise). All of the capacitors were replaced in 2011. The tubes are JJ branded ECC-83S (four total) and one old stock 12X4 rectifier tube. I sent this preamp to Frank Van Alstine himself and he checked it out for me. No problem and no charge! Unfortunately, this preamp got very little use, only a few days. Im having problems with amps and speakers and just decided to move on. I tested the tubes on a Hickok Model 6000 Dynamic Mutual Conductance Tube Tester. A new ECC-83S should read 1250 micromhos on both plates. The JJ tubes in this unit measured 1100/1050, 950/1250, 950/900, and 900/1000. All tubes sound good to my ears. The 12X4 rectifier tube was also well within the good range on both plates. I will pack the unit with all tubes removed from their sockets, each wrapped in bubble wrap, and placed inside the chassis.
