Vintage Dual 1229-Q Turntable in very good overall condition. Fully working in auto-play, manual tonearm lead-in/power on and end of record auto lift up/shut down and cueing working (see youtube link; file too big for eBay). Record size and speed selection levers move & work as they should. Runs quietly and sounds great. Features a rare low profile Dual dust cover, United Audio walnut wood veneer base and built-in strobe speed check with adjustment (new LED strobe light source installed). Cartridge is a Shure M91E I’m pretty sure; some of the lettering is obscured with a good Super Track stylus. The faceplate has various scratches, scuffs and scrapes from use & age but with all lettering present; the center trim brushed chrome has some pitting. Paper speed ring under platter has a spot that has lifted away giving a momentary blip when viewing the strobe window. Base is in great shape with only a minor chip on the left rear corner. Dust cover has some deep scratches but no chips or breaks. These units where not shipped together with dust covers originally and I will take great pains to pack well, and I have shipped Dual’s successfully before, but plastic cover does tend to get damaged in shipping though it does help protect the tonearm assembly without having the original packaging. Platter will be removed for shipping; there is no C clip locking it in place. Sold as-is, as found with no returns or partial refunds, but guaranteed to be as shown & described. All in all, a very nice example of a 50-year-old classic & desirable Dual 1229Q turntable, the most advanced of the 1200 series. Nice and heavy Dual 1229Q turntable Cosmetically very nice except center of platter Needs cartridge and adapter to plug into head shell. Motor and idler seem to be working nice and quietly. But platter isn’t turning Start / stop seems stuck. Don’t know why Manually turning platter and tonearm returns Cue works Speed works. Strobe appears to need bulb.
