If youre an electronics tinkerer you can probably perform this repair. The woofers themselves are fine, but require the 300W amplifiers to be running in order to produce bass frequencies. One great alternative to repair would be to simply use these with a different subwoofer plugged into your receiver subwoofer output(s). Replacement amplifiers are also available from Definitive Technology, but are rather expensive. Included with these speakers are a set of very high quality shielded speaker cables, which were originally about $100 each. The Buy It Now price is for the pair. Definitive Technology (aka Def Tech) BP8060ST tower speaker pair. Each tower includes a powered 300 watt 10 inch subwoofer plus two passive radiators. For sale is just the pair of Definitive Tech BP 8060ST speakers. Given that only knowledgeable audio enthusiasts even know what a Definitive Tech is and how good they are, I will spare too many details. These are bipolar, meaning that in addition to the front facing mid-bass/midrange and tweeters and the subwoofer and passive radiators on the side, there is a midrange/tweeter facing backward to add dimension and realism to the music. The bass can be adjusted to render audiophile quality accuracy, or cranked up a bit (or a lot) to have some fun with tons of bass. Having subwoofers in both speakers is an advantage that most audio experts like and recomment, it fills the room more evenly with bass than a typical one-subwoofer setup.
