Nice Conrad Johnson PV-4 preamp project. READ CAREFULLY! Things to know about this preamplifier: This was from an estate of a longtime Audiophile/collector. The phono stage lead wires between the RCA jacks and the circuit board have been clipped off making this a one input only line stage preamp.. i have no idea why this was done as we all know that Conrad Johnson’s phono stages are excellent! But, the Good news is that the tubes in the phono stage do light up when powered on so there’s a possibility that all that needs to be done is to reattach those wires between the circuit board and the RCA inputs. But.. no guarantee.. but very possible. The balance knob seems to be taken out of the circuit.. this seems to have been a trend at one point to take as much out of the signal path as possible. Again, could be an easy fix, but possibly needs a new volume pot. Listening to the line stage the sound does sound balanced between the speakers. The good news is the line stage does work and sounds Excellent! Really dynamic from top to bottom! Clean, airy.. nice mids, tight bass, big soundstage! Tubes are all Lindal branded 12Ax7 x3 12AT7 x2 Cosmetically it’s in good condition. NOTE: Due to the above, this is being sold AS-IS for parts/repair with no returns!! If you are handy with electronics and have the skills, it wouldn’t take much to restore this beauty to its former glory or mod it to be even better.. Free shipping
