I was never into home theater and dont have a way to properly test this unit, but it powers up according to the proper warm up sequence, and the touch screen responds in the different modes, so at least were part way there! The 3 brightness modes work as does the screen color option. Beyond that, as far as audio performance goes, I have no clue! It may work great, or you may lose your $1,800 life savings trying to get it fixed! No remote control or manual, but a FREE manual is easily found online. Got a few extra days to learn how this thing operates and hook it up? Go read it! Cosmetically, its missing the front push-on(?), do nothing cover panel. How and why its missing, I dont know! Or even how and why it was designed this way in the first place! Theres some light wear/scratches here and there on the cabinet, front, and rear panels. About 4 cabinet screws somehow vanished. Thanks to ebay/PayPals current draconian policies regarding returns, we will no longer sell most items as working, but rather officially as parts, not working. For sale is a Classe Audio DR-5 stereo preamplifier with MC & MM phono preamp in very good condition. We have tested and confirmed that this preamp is excellent working order and sounding fantastic. Cosmetically, it does show signs of use such as some scratches around the corners of the face plate and a few minor blemishes over all. (These blemishes can been in the pictures). The soundstaging and imaging on this preamp is incredible. It has a huge sound that is smooth on the high-end with tight punchy bass response that is an absolute joy to listen to. Overall, this makes a wonderful addition to any audiophiles system and will certainly keep you satisfied for years to come. The four toggles select tape/source, phono/bypass (for direct feed of the phono signal past the input selector, tape and mode switches), polarity inversion and mute. Polarity inversion issomething Ive been championing for years, so the DR-5 immediately gained a spot in my heart, while the mute is an absolute necessity with this pre-amp as their is no mains on/off. Classé argues that the DR-5 sounds best only after its been powered on for a while, and theyre right. It took over four days to burn this in from cold and then it took a good couple of hours after switch-on for the 5 to sound its best. The DR-5 is unlikely to make your electricity meter go into a spin, so leaving it on at all times is advisable.At the back is a row of gold-plated sockets and a switch to select between m-m and m-c operation. Loading is accomplished automatically through the use of self-adjusting impedance circuits, but m-c gain is user selectable. Classé supplies a kit of resistors to allow the user to vary the factory setting of 24dB gain (in addition to the m-m gain of 35dB) in 2dB steps; the range is 20dB-40dB, so youd be hard-pressed to find an m-c cartridge which cant be accommodated.
