I bought this from the original owner along with the sa200.2 and I ended up going direct from my Cary streamer so I don’t need this excellent preamp. It is flawless and comes with original packaging -remote-power cable. The original factory tubes have been installed and have low hours -20-30 hours in them. This Cary preamp is in need of some TLC. Please read everything so youre not disappointed when you receive it as I think full disclosure is the best way to do business. I wanted to test the unit with the metal casing off so I could see if the tubes were good before plugging anything into it. Once I had the housing removed, I decided to take off the faceplate as well because it needed a good cleaning. When I went to take off the knobs, I noticed that the function select knob had an issue. It would turn past the end stops. I figured it just need to be tightened from the back to fix that. At that point, with the housing off & the faceplate removed, I plugged in the unit. Straight away there was a small flame that came from the board directly before the transformer. I can tell you that all 4 of the tubes did light up, but I unplugged the unit almost immediately and that was the end of any testing I did. I cleaned it up, took some pics, and then put the faceplate back on, put the knobs and housing back on, and now Im listing it as is. Please also note that some of the lettering on the faceplate is faded. I know these are on the rarer side and the actual sold prices I could find ranged from $700-1200. Im definitely not an electronics repair tech, so I dont know how much time/money needs to be spent to make it work.
