The HE-300s quickly became a fan favorite thanks to their slightly warm sound signature highlighted by clear mids and highs. However, audiophiles often complained the build was not very comfortable stating the ear cushions weren’t very soft and the cables not very flexible.Massdrop HiFiMAN HE-350 was built to rectify those issues. The open-back headphones feature a floating headband that feels lighter and more comfortable, allowing for long listening sessions. The velour ear cups are soft and prevent the wearer’s ears from over heating. Vintage Yamaha YP-D10 Direct Drive Quartz Lock Stereo Turntable Listed is a vintage and scarce Yamaha YP-D10 Direct Drive Quartz Lock Turntable. Yamaha’s top of the line turntable and a true Audiophile quality table. I have owned this beautiful classic turntable for many years. It has always been well cared for and never abused. This fine turntable was setup with all Yamaha separate components in a spare room and seldom used. It is in excellent condition and the wood veneer is in wonderful condition. No serious scratches or damage that is often the case. The lid is very clean as well no cracks or damage. Some very light scratches may be evident. This is all original and has never been altered. It still retains it’s original feet. Very well built with solid wood plinth and quite heavy with a weight of thirty six pounds. The weight means music has proper pace and dynamics. Cheaper plastic turntables can never reproduce this sound. Equally important is an extremely nice high quality tonearm with adjustments that include VTAF (Vertical Tracking Angle On The Fly). This permits fine tuning the cartridge to the record with top level precision. This turntable has never ceased to amaze me in it’s sound accuracy and versatility. The powerful high torque motor with precise servo control ensure the speed is always spot on. The tonearm automatically lifts at the end of a record and it shuts off, features that still work perfectly to this day. In fact everything works as it’s supposed to. It’s in excellent condition. Last but not least the clean lines, design and beauty of this turntable are unsurpassed. I have used this with various moving magnet and moving coil cartridges with great results. Mounted on the beautiful S-Shaped tonearm is a Dynavector 10X2 Moving Coil Cartridge and Yamaha HS-1000 Headshell. This was manufactured in Japan in 1978 in the golden era of hi-fidelity. In the FG servo system, a rotational speed detector (FG) detects a signal from the FG that generates a frequency proportional to the rotational speed of the turntable and controls the rotational speed of the turntable so that the frequency of the signal becomes constant. The quartz PLL servo system was introduced to further improve the rotational accuracy of the FG servo system. This system controls the frequency of the output signal from the FG and the reference signal oscillated by the crystal oscillator to eliminate the phase shift. The rotational accuracy can be improved to the oscillation frequency accuracy of the crystal. The rotational accuracy when this quartz PLL is applied is within ± 20 ppm including temperature drift. The turntable is made of aluminum die cast with a diameter of 31 cm and has a precise dynamic balance from the molding stage. In addition, it is designed to move the mass to the outer circumference and has an inertial mass of 350 kg ? cm.2It is improved against load variations at high frequencies where the quartz PLL becomes ineffective. The power supply section uses a strong one that maintains a constant voltage of 24 V even when a current of 1100 mA is taken out to obtain an accurate response to load fluctuations. The tone arm is a gimbal support system with a pivot made of polished chromium molybdenum steel. It has an initial motion sensitivity of 3 mg vertically and 5 mg horizontally. The arm body is an S-shaped pipe arm made of a special aluminum alloy that has more than twice the strength and hardness of pure aluminum. The pipe is filled with a filler to suppress resonance. The inside force canceler is a roller string and counterweight type, and highly adjustable. Also, the plug is gold-plated. Equipped with 6 mm stroke elevation ring rotary arm height adjustment mechanism so that commercially available cartridges can be used. Up and down of 1 mm is possible with one rotation of the ring. The cabinet is not a box but a solid type with 64 mm thick laminated high-density particleboards to reduce the adverse effects of vibration. In addition, a 1.6 mm thick steel plate is used for the back plate to prevent howling. It also protects against unwanted radiation from crystal oscillator circuits and logic circuits. The arm stand and arm base are made of 1 kg zinc die cast and are fixed to the cabinet. In addition, the arm support is fixed by tightening it with a surface like a vise, and unnecessary vibration is suppressed by fixing the root of the arm sufficiently. In addition, a large double damping type insulator has been adopted in consideration of the material. It is equipped with a silent ending mechanism. When a recording is finished and the needle tip of the cartridge enters the final sound groove, the queuing lever automatically operates to quietly raise the cartridge from the recording surface and turn the power off. This mechanism uses a photoelectric detector to detect the moving speed of the shutter attached to the lower part of the tone arm and drives an electromagnetic solenoid to operate the queuing lever and power switch. This is a great opportunity to get a highly regarded tuner in perfect operational order, with a printout of the manual and the original remote control. At a standard width of 43cms this matches full width HiFi units from Sony and many other manufacturers, and is in the top-line QS range. The display is dimmable with two levels of brightness, and the usual display options for DAB and FM including a “Quality” signal bar chart. (see photo). I have not comprehensively tested AM but seems ok. You will of course need to retune as per manual unless you happen to live in the London area like us where it has been scanned and presets loaded. This is an enthusiasts audiophile unit, and as an early DAB receiver the DAB full scan loads stations in transmission frequency (i.e. ensemble) order, unlike modern portables that sort into alphabetic order. You can store your stations (99 presets available) in your preferred order and then conveniently access them by the tuning wheel. Clearly as it was released in 2004 this was before DAB+ (DAB PLUS) was introduced but all the main UK stations that justify high quality reception are transmitted in standard DAB. The originally supplied indoor aerials for DAB and FM are not included, but as an enthusiast you will probably want to use an external aerial unless you are very close to a transmitter. The FM performance is glorious and considerably superior to the tuner built in to my AV amp. I used a loft horizontal dipole pointing to the Wrotham, Kent transmitter about 60 miles away. The FM receiver is recognised as state of the art audiophile performance when fed with a good signal and I have certainly found that to be the case. As far as DAB performance is concerned, certainly BBC Radio 3 (192kbps) and Classic (128kbps) come over superbly but some other stations, where the data rate has been selected at a lower level to fit more stations into the available bands, leave a lot to be desired in terms of HiFi quality. The DAB front end is not as sensitive as later DAB tuners from Sony and others so you will almost certainly require an external aerial to get the maximum number of the various DAB transmitters, though I have tested it perfectly with a simple split wire dipole in a vertical configuration about 2 ft length, positioned indoors next to the tuner, but that does depend on your local situation. Happy to advise. Designed in 2004 the tuner will not receive the newer DAB+ transmissions. But as most of these DAB+ stations seem to be low data rate, and even mono transmissions, that will probably not be of concern. If you really want Wirral Radio or Fun Kids on DAB+ then Id recommend getting a modern DAB+ portable! I will include an article I wrote recently on DAB reception on some early Sony DAB/FM Tuners which may be of interest to HiFi audiophile enthusiasts. BEAUTIFUL YAMAHA CT 600 AM/FM AUDIOPHILE TUNER TESTED WORKS GREAT RARE MINT. In my possession all switches and potentiometers were cleaned for flawless and noise free operation . In the pics the tube stereo headphone amp to check its performance is not included. The sound is very good and crystal clear one of the reason why it’s highly regarded by audiophile all over the world and it’s very well made with real wood cabinet . There is minor cosmetic wear on top of wood cabinet couple of scratches which were taken care of by applying matching wood stain to the mute them and this worked great . Another thing to note is that you really need high quality am/fm antenna to maximum performance from this quality tuner . With the makeshift bare wire antenna I used as antenna the fm stereo red led lighted up on a strong local fm station on others weaker fm stations the stereo light did not light or the stereo light would flicker . This tuner had never been worked on its in 100 percent all orginal condition . The chassis inside is like next new . Quality made in Japan. YOU WILL ????LOVE IT!
