This listing is for an Audio Research D-115 tube stereo power amplifier in non-working condition, for parts or possible restoration project. I am helping a friend sell this as it was owned by his brother who recently passed. It has been in storage for sometime and is dirty and will require a thorough cleaning. My observation is one of the power tubes is bad, as shown in the photos, the other 7 look to be in remarkably good condition. They are Svetlana Electric made in Russia. The smaller tubes are Electro-harmonix made in Russia, and several USA tubes, 1 tube is missiing. The circuit boards are dirty, but I see no broken boards or damage. The tube cage or chassis cover is missing. I understand that this is one of the more powerful vintage tube amplifiers ever made by Audio Research. This amp is also very heavy and is being offered to the buyer for free local pickup, and is recommended if you live near me in Severna Park, MD (just south of Baltimore). Shipping will be through UPS Ground Services or FedEx Ground Services, insurance can be arranged through them if desired. International shipping can be arranged through eBays International service. I have never used that service, but I understand it is quite reliable, buyer will have to research rates through eBay. When released, Audio Research’s SP11 was their flagship, 2-chassis preamplifier. It garnered praise for its exceptional ability to reveal musical passages with haunting realness. This is partly due to its being extremely silent in operation. This is a beautiful foundation of a hi-end vintage system. Both units were serviced and all controls cleaned by our veteran amplifier tech. The phono stage is also excellent and allows for a nice range of loading for a variety of cartridges. I particularly enjoyed this statement in a review in Stereophile, First, it must be said that the SP-11, more even than most other preamps, does not like a cold start. After 15 minutes warmup, it sounds very good. After an hour it starts to pull ahead, sonically, of any of its known competition. After two hours, it is head and shoulders better than anything I have ever heard! The 6H30’s are newer, but I recommend a complete new output tube set be purchased. The amp is in very good near mint physical condition.
