Audio Research SP-11 mk2 Im the second owner of this amp and must have had it about 20 years. For whatever reason, its been very little used throughout its life and it shows. It is in excellent condition. It was serviced by Dave Hunter in Nottinghamshire - who is an extremely qualified electrical engineer, and is a specialist in valve amps - both audio and guitar, and has all the ARC data. The report has been attached. I sent it for a general service as there was an issue with the mute/soft start circuit. All it needed was one low voltage capacitor changed. All the other capacitors are in perfect condition, as are the original Sovtek valves, all 6 of them. The amp is 100% original apart from the one cap change above. Most of the audio caps are REL teflon, so have huge life spans. The electrolytics are well within spec, so Dave recommended leaving as-is. Ill package both the amp and PSU in seperate boxes, both double boxed properly, and send by Parcelforce 48, tracked and signed for. It may take a day or two to get properly packed. Please let me know if you need full insurance, as that will cost a bit extra for the peace of mind. Note that this ARC is particularly noted for its excellent phono stage. Still a contender after all these years. It also has a separate gain control as well as volume attenuation which makes it quite flexible for matching to power amp of differing sensitivity. The unit is a 240V UK model, so the power outlets designed for the American market were blanked off from new. I doubt there is a better collectable example of an SP11 out there. Audio Research Ref 110. Fabulous sounding tube stereo power amplifier. Balanced inputs. Excellent condition. Little used, approx 1,000 hours on tubes. Review: Audio Resurgence What Makes The Ref 110 Special? It has an effortless presentation and never holds back on loud complex passages. It presents detail but given adequate warm-up time and suitable ancillaries, the detail is never etched or clinical sounding. It has a large enveloping soundstage, particularly front to back, with good image placement and plenty of air and space around elements in the soundscape. It provides a good, solid bass foundation, better than most tube amps that I’ve heard to date. It is remarkably transparent. Speakers are able to disappear unimpeded and the window into the music is clear, without any discernible opacity. It has dynamic drive and punch and is great with rock music, but if the recording is bad, it isn’t going to gloss over the fact. Review: Stereophile The Audio Research Corporation's Reference 110 amplifier replicated, over many weeks of listening, the magic I'd experienced in those few hours of listening at Home Entertainment 2006. In certain areas the amplifier produced a level of realism startling enough to make me reluctant to turn the stereo off. I had this experience with all types of music, as well as with movies. Although the 110 was an excellent match for ARC's Reference 3 preamp, I didn't need an ARC preamp to hear its magic.
