1986 era Adcom GFA-555 200WPC in to 8 Ohms Stereo Power Amplifier. Made in USA and yes to Adcom is still around. Date on powercswich 11/86 and extended service agreement ended 8/13/1990 so dates amp to sold August 1987 and stored or taken well cared for as no dust inside or major marks or wear, from nonsmoking environment. Clean inside and out sides bit of wear and tear nothing affects use or display. This is an earlier model compared to GFA-555-ll model these are better for use as the ll model added 4 feet of internal wire to get fuses outside insted of on board like this one. That extra 4 feet of wire isnt need and creats resistance,and heat and more trouble than its woth having outside access to pcb power board fuses. Seems small inconvenience but never have had to change a internal fuse one 1 yet. All Origional Adcom made for and branded and bias voltage was 3-4 mv. low reset to factory 16mv. Amazing condition considering age, may need service someday but all looks good and with acceptable tolerance values. This amp is rated 200 watts at 8 ohms and bridges to over 600 watts in mono bridged mode. is a direct-coupled, high-power, high-current design with class-A bias for the input stage. A huge, 700VA toroidal transformer is coupled with a total capacitance of 60,000F. Current capacity is said to be 20A peak-peak. If 200Wpc into 8 ohms isnt enough power, the amp is easily bridgeable (flicking a switch on the back panel) to provide 600W mono into the same load with less than 0.25% THD. With my Acoustats, a pair of Adcoms would give me 850W/side. I would love to hear the effects of such megapower in my system. It set standards for quiet and loud! 1989 review excerpt bellow. A single LED indicates when power is on, two other LEDs serving to show when distortion in either channel exceeds 1%. These never lit up during the course of my listening tests. Bottom line great Power Amplifier for use in front high end stereo and surround for more depth clarity and improved Headroom. This amp will impress. Use mine on a 5 channel surround system that has audio output jacks, current Pioneer Elite, former Denon and Sony surround 5.1 units sounded good too but some how the Elite is sweeter and more vivid sound, different preamps and head units determine that.
