There are many favorable reviews and other online articles on this 70s turntable. The Pioneer PL-A35 is a classic wood & metal turntable. The base (plinth) is a beautiful walnut wood veneer on a heavy wood frame. There is a heavy-duty motor for the platter and a Gear motor for the Pick-Up. The entire turntable is about 20 lbs. (package weight about 27+ lbs). The turntable is built like a tank. The quality of the build and components explains why this turntable is still highly desirable.Designed for ease-of- operation as well as precision, the PL-A35 is fully automatic— from the playing of the record to auto-repeat and tonearm return at the end of the record. ***Pickering XV-15/750E DCF Series Phono Cartridge in Original Case*** This cartridge has been play-tested, and sounds great. It came from my dads collection, and although I dont know its exact history, it has been used, but is in very good cosmetic condition. It comes in the original metal box case, with the brochure, mounting hardware, and stylus guard. Everything in the pics is included. In addition to play-testing, I took a couple of pictures of the diamond tip with a USB microscope (see pics), and the bright spots on either side show the size of the contact patches, indicating some wear. In fact, the larger bright spot on the left indicates that there was not enough anti-skate force being applied by the previous owner. There is definitely some life left in the stylus (since the contact patches are not touching), but it is worth noting how much wear is present. From the front pic of the stylus, the elliptical tip looks to be a nude-mount to me, but the literature does not state this explicitly. Although I could not find the official compliance measurement for this cartridge, I believe it is high-compliance, which will perform best with a low-mass tonearm, but please do your research to check for compatibility with your setup. My experience with Pickering and Stanton cartridges is that they are fairly forgiving with setup. Over the last several years, I have sold many items from my dads collection of audio gear, and everything is tested and working (no junk), so check my feedback, and buy with confidence.
