This speaker system was developed using Yamahas proprietary technologies, such as the beryllium diaphragm, based on the basic idea of creating a product that would be used as a reference for many years. It was sold for a long period of 23 years, from 1974 to 1997, and was used as monitor speakers by the Swedish and Finnish national broadcasters. The system uses a beryllium diaphragm for the diaphragm in the mid- and high-frequency range. This diaphragm was successfully developed using proprietary technology based on the electron beam vacuum deposition method and special alloy technology used in LSI manufacturing technology, and because it is manufactured in a high vacuum, it has fewer compounds and higher purity than rolled plate materials. In addition, as the alloy is evaporated once into atomic or plasma form, it is possible to produce deep domes and tangential edges, which are difficult to achieve with drawing moulding.Furthermore, a special coating of approximately 5 microns is applied to the corrosion-prone beryllium material to protect it from the harmful elements in the atmosphere. The low-frequency range is provided by the JA-3058A, a 30 cm cone-type woofer. The diaphragm is made of corrugated cone paper, which was developed based on many years of material research. The edges are made of a cloth with a double coating of thermosetting resin and resonance-suppressing viscoelastic resin to enhance the linearity of the input signal. The magnetic circuit uses a 156? ferrite magnet and the voice coil is edge-wise wound with copper ribbon wire. The mid-range is equipped with the JA-0801, an 8.8 cm dome-type scorcher. It uses a beryllium diaphragm with a diaphragm diameter of 68 mm, manufactured using Yamahas proprietary process. For the edge, a double-coated tangential edge impregnated with viscoelastic resin and thermosetting resin, which was the result of research during the development of the NS-690 and other soft-dome models, is used to achieve sufficient shape retention and centre retention capability without compromising the characteristics of the beryllium. The voice coil has a large diameter of 66? and is wound edge-wise with copper ribbon wire to increase efficiency. The vibration system is designed so that the air pressure behind the beryllium diaphragm, voice coil and edge is the same for each part of the system. Behind the diaphragm, the centre pole is hollowed out and connected to the back cavity, while behind the voice coil, an air hole is drilled in the bottom plate of the magnetic circuit and connected to the back cavity. Behind the edges, air holes are drilled in the voice coil bobbin and also in the outer pole to allow air to escape from the edges. The magnetic circuit uses a large 156? magnet with a magnetic flux density of 16,000 gauss to improve transient characteristics.A dome shape with a small radius of curvature is used to increase the rigidity of the diaphragm and improve directivity. The diffuser suppresses the valleys caused by interference in the out-of-band on-axis characteristics, extending the on-axis characteristics to the widest possible range and improving the connection with the tweeter around the crossover frequency. The high frequency range is provided by the JA-0513, a 3.0 cm dome tweeter. The diaphragm uses a 23 mm lightweight diaphragm weighing less than 0.03 g, taking advantage of the special properties of beryllium material, and a cloth tangential edge with double coating of viscoelastic resin and thermosetting resin is used to suppress unwanted resonances. The voice coil diameter is 23 mm and aluminium wire edge-wise winding with a direct connection to the beryllium diaphragm is used, making the entire vibration system lightweight. The centre pole is tapered and irregularly shaped in the space behind the voice coil, which is the result of research into the NS-690 tweeter, and is filled with sound-absorbing urethane to suppress the effects of resonance. In designing the network section, not only were the electrical characteristics checked, but also the basic actual listening experience was emphasised, and the decision was made through repeated cut-and-try listening tests. The woofer circuit uses 1.0? Hormar wire and a bobbin with a large-diameter ferrite core to reduce DC resistance and improve input resistance characteristics.A large, double-wound attenuator with good input resistance characteristics is used for the attenuator that sets the levels of the screener and tweeter. The enclosure is a fully sealed bookshelf type with a four-sided, black finish design. The NS-1000M uses 24 mm front baffle, 25 mm back plate and 20 mm particleboard for the side, top and bottom plates. In addition, 24 mm thick plywood is passed over the back plate above the woofer mounting holes to provide a strong reinforcement, and appropriate reinforcement is provided in various places. The finish is black semi-gloss without cross netting.
