  • Description

Own a One of a kind Yamaha M-power amplifier that no one else has! This is a custom-Built Yamaha I am calling the MX-900 Stereo Power amplifier: In reality this is an MX-800 that has been upgraded for more power and reliability. A one of a kind Unit! In summary: A second transformer was added to increase power. The entire output stage was rebuilt and upgraded to Audiophile parts. The audio circuits were not modified otherwise. Both Channels before clipping at 20Hz into 8 ohms gives 225 watts + 225 wattsBoth Channels into 4 ohms @ 20Hz into 4 ohms = 450 watts + 450 watts RMS.Both channels at 8 ohms into 1Khz = 230 watts + RMSMy Test bench power mains dropped to 116v, or these numbers would be even higher. How: By adding a second Transformer, there is less rail droop, thus higher cleaner power is available. I installed a 400VA Toroidal transformer, but kept the stock MX-800 voltage rails. I did not want to increase those and tax other components. The stock unit comes with 5 pairs of 8amp output transistors. I upgraded these to 15amp outputs. These are the same ones used in the Nakamichi PA-7. I used 5 pairs here. The Onkyo M-508 uses 3 pairs of these devices and is rated for 200wpc, I used 5 here. Each device was hand gain and vbe matched for better current sharing and reliability. As an added safety measure, I installed two thermal switches on the heatsinks such that if they get too hot, the speakers will be switched off till the sinks return to below 65C. I do not foresee these tripping under normal usage, but its a good insurance to have for reliability and longevity. The stock unit did not have this, this is an extra feature added. It is a dual transformer amplifier now. The new transformer only kicks in under high power demand. The stock transformer runs everything else including low power output.I changed the LED display to amber to differentiate this form the stock Yamahas. All new and upgraded output transistors. The whole output stage in both channel was rebuilt, ie 20 New power transistors, thats over $100 in parts plus another $100 for the Transformer, Plus 8 hours in design/ labor/ testing. Theres a lot of value here. Feel free to ask questions, this is a one of a kind Yamaha power amp now. Condition: Its a mixed bag, there are some scratches that I have tried to mark, please see photos. Id say it is normal for its age. The shell is in good shape. PS: Its still not as powerful as an MX-1000, but it sits comfortably between the MX-800 and the MX-1000 in power/ specs. Hence my naming it the MX-900. With good AC power behind it, you will easily get between 220 to 260 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and 450-500 into 4 ohms. It is a Very powerful amplifier now, with the same great MX Yamaha sound.

Engineered to deliver on power andperformance, this amplifier harnesses the best in power performance that drivesfrom a technological engineering marvel. Featuring the highest quality incomponents for amplifiers, pair it with the CX-A5200 AV Preamplifier Processorfor the ultimate theater experience.150 W(8 ohm, 0.06% THD, 20Hz-20Hz, 2-ch driven)Yamahaengineered toroidal transformer and custom block capacitorsPoweramp with three-stage Darlington circuitNoiseresistant XLR balanced connectionBi-ampingchannel selectorGold-platedspeaker terminalsBridge-TiedLoad (BTL) supportAutoPower Standby AVENTAGE SeparatesAVENTAGE Separates represent the ultimate in homeentertainment and Yamaha establishes a new benchmark in performance andinnovation with the CX-A5200 pre-amplifier and MX-A5200 power amplifier.Power and PresenceThe MX-A5200 offers 11 discrete channels of amplificationwith flexible configuration options, delivering an impressive combination ofboth high power and quality.Enjoy the flexibility of a multi-zone system or immerseyourself in exhilarating surround sound using any combination of 11 channels.Ultimate Performancewith BTLTo further enhance power capacity, the MX-A5200 supports aBridge-Tied Load (BTL) configuration for the front two channels. This allowsfor quality in both sound fidelity and power to the front speakers.Uncompromising DesignAs part of its uncompromising design, the MX-A5200 boasts aspecially designed chassis to maximize rigidity and eliminate the effects ofvibration. The MX-A5200 employs a double bottom construction consistingof vibration control plates made of 1.6 mm steel, echoing that of the legendaryZ11 AV receiver. In order to support the heavy heat sinks and othercomponents, a left-right independent construction strengthened by a rigid-framestructure is utilized. The bottom frame reduces the transmission of vibrationproduced by the large power supply transformer and heat sinks. The MX-A5200 also incorporates a heavy insulator that blocksexternal vibration thus improving signal to noise ratios for an ultimatetheater experience.Perfectly SymmetricalPrecisely planned, circuit-routed and designed with asymmetrical power amplifier layout, the MX-A5200 achieves optimal channelseparation with left and right sides being both physically and electricallyisolated. This design allows for an improvement in signal-to-noiseratio thus achieving an expansive sound stage and a quality output.EffortlessPerformanceThe MX-A5200 utilizes a high-output, large toroidal transformercombined with two specially developed high-capacity block capacitors to delivermassive power with generous headroom.A direct effect of this engineering is a minimized energyloss and quality reproduction of sound sources.Superior ConnectionsThe rear of the MX-A5200 features high-quality, gold-platedterminals that are compatible with Y plugs (spade connectors) for optimalconnections with speakers.Heavy-Duty BottomPlateStabilizing the chassis is the key to enhanced performanceand sound. The MX-A5200 achieves this by employing a thick bottom plate whichacts to steady the entire structure and achieve optimal sound.Balanced XLRConnectionsWhen connecting AV components, electrical noise can beintroduced – a result of the connections between them and also from othersources of external noise. The MX-A5200 utilizes balanced connections for all 11channels, the same type found in professional audio and theater applications. This is to reduce electrical or any external noise.Additionally, the alternative RCA unbalancedconnections use a ground sensing transmission method that achieves simplebalanced transmission.Hi-Fi Heaven1549 Sixth StGreen Bay, WI 54304Contact us with your exact shipping address for accurate shipping cost.Larger speakers and items over 150lbs are strapped to a pallet and shipped via Freight including liftgate and residential delivery. We accept Pay-Pal or credit cards by contacting our store. We offer a 4% discount with payment by Zelle or check.Defective items are exchanged within 14 days from delivery. After 14 days, the manufacturers warranty will apply. The only weak(ish) link now are the size of the heatsinks. These are perfectly ok for 4 ohms operation, I doubt they will overheat under any normal usage, however as an added safety measure, I installed two thermal switches on the heatsinks such that if they get too hot, the speakers will be switched off till the sinks return to below 65C. I do not foresee these tripping under normal usage, but its a good insurance to have for reliability and longevity. It is a dual transformer amplifier now. The new transformer only kicks in under high power demand. The stock transformer runs everything else including low power output.I changed the LED display to amber to differentiate this form the stock Yamahas. All new and upgraded output transistors. The whole output stage in both channel was rebuilt, ie 20 New power transistors, thats over $100 in parts plus another $100 for the Transformer.Added two thermal switches for protection. Hence my naming it the MX-900 :-)
