Yamaha MX-1000u Power Amplifier - BROKEN LEFT CHANNEL This Yamaha MX 1000 amplifier was purchased about three years ago in unknown condition. Upon receipt the unit was powered up: all lights lit up, however the amplifier went into protection mode and emitted the distinct smell of burning electronics. At that point the amplifier was NEVER POWERED ON AGAIN. Upon investigation it was found the entire left channel of the amplifier is blown. Detailed images of the board and diagnostic findings can be sent upon request. The previous owner claimed his son attempted to hook up a subwoofer to the unit at which point it broke. The nature of the failure suggests this is true. Its worth noting that no repair of the unit was attempted. The electronics are completely untouched and original. As such this is an excellent parts amplifier either for someone who wants to replace the left channel board with a new one, or repair the left channel board. To the best of my knowledge everything else is in excellent working order however I can provide no guarantees that this is the case. Besides the broken left channel, there is a scratch on the front display glass/plastic. There are additional smaller scratches on the case of the unit as is befitting an amplifier of this vintage. The binding posts are in good working order. Besides the aforementioned broken left channel board, I would rate this amplifier as excellent. Its with a heavy heart that I put this unit up for sale, as this is one of the all-time best class A/AB amplifiers ever made by some reports. Input level controls also work properly with no static. I also did a test of the DC offset and took photos of each Channel which is low and good for this amp.
