The main function of this amp is to transform a 2 channel stereo system into a Dolby Pro Logic Surround Sound System and music sound processing system. The amp powers a center channel speaker with 80 watts and and also four effect speakers (two surround backs and two fronts with 25 watts (25W x 4 effects, 80 watt center). Therefore, effectively you can have a 5.1/7.1 system if you add to a 2 channel system. As indicated above, the unit will accept external amplification as well, but I did not test that.
