Professional service means more than just replacing bulbs and capacitors. All service is expertly performed by me- I’m a professional electronics tech with over 35 yrs. of experience. I’m very thorough, extremely meticulous in my work, and I never sell anything that I wouldn’t be proud to have in my own personal hi-fi collection! Below is a list of the work that is performed on ALL units we service / recondition: · Unit thoroughly cleaned inside and all of the internal controls professionally cleaned and properly lubricated to ensure excellent performance. · All potentiometers and switches flushed and cleaned with DeoxIT F5 and then lubricated with F100L Faderlube to insure smooth, noise-free operation. · All Dial, tuning meter, function and dial pointer lamps replaced and upgraded to LED’s for the ultimate in reliability. · ALL knobs cleaned with ultrasonic cleaner, then hand-polished. · The tuner dial window glass, faceplate, and rear audio connectors are cleaned and hand-polished. · ALL electrolytic capacitors get replaced including the large (costly) filter caps! Electrolytic caps age – there is no getting around that. They have already exceeded their life expectancy in these vintage receivers and other audio gear. Aged capacitors negatively impact the quality of the sound. That is why I insist on replacing them ALL. I only use the highest quality capacitors (Nichicon, Panasonic, WIMA, etc.) and all are purchased through reputable well-vetted U.S. distributers such as Mouser, Digikey, etc. NO Cheap Chinese knock-offs!! · The original power cord gets inspected and cleaned. · Any missing top cabinet or bottom plate screws get replaced. Any other screws on or inside the unit which are damaged or rusted also get replaced, unless they are a type not readily available. · All feet are inspected and replaced as needed. · In Marantz receivers, the light-diffusing Velum paper behind the radio dial gets replaced for color clarity. · ALL diodes and transistors which are commonly known to be problematic, (there are some that are known in the tech community to not age very well and fail or become noisy, distorting the sound) these get replaced with modern equivalent spec. Fairchild / Onsemi components for unsurpassed sound quality and long-term reliability. · ALL solder joints checked for cold joints on all of the circuit boards under magnification and reflowed where necessary. This includes the lamp connections which are known to crack, and other high heat areas where the solder joints tend to fail over time if not maintained and serviced. OnSemi and Fairchild semiconductors and 1% metal film resistors have been utilized where replacements were needed. · The original trimmer potentiometers used for critical amplifier adjustments such as Bias and Offset/symmetry level, get replaced with new high-quality Bourns Sealed multi-turn trimmer pot’s. (Note: no trim-pots on the CR-440 – bias/offset not adjustable) · Power supply output adjusted to factory specifications on units that provide adjustment for it. · Amplifier DC bias/offset voltages adjusted to factory specs per the service manual for the unit. (note: bias and offset not adjustable on the CR-440) · All functions, inputs and outputs tested and verified to be fully operational, including Phono. · After restoration the receiver was put through a real life, 5-day, burn in and usage test to confirm reliability and help guarantee optimal long-term, quality performance.. · Yamaha CR-440 Specifications: · Tuning range: FM, MW · Power output: 30 watts per channel into 8? This is NOT a new component. As such, it does not come with any guarantee – implied or written. Vintage audio equipment is sensitive and does not travel particularly well. So in rare instances, that which is working 100% at my place may require adjustment or servicing before working equally well at yours. Most on-line sales of vintage electronics happen under these conditions – but I just wanted to point this out so there are no misunderstandings or disappointments. Please examine the pictures carefully. They are part of the description. Ive shipped many vintage audio items and will pack very securely to ensure safe shipping.
