TESLA E833CC tube; it is equivalent to 12AX7, ECC83, 6057, 7025, CV4004 … but more important it is strictly built as the famous Telefunken ECC803S (S = SPANNGITTER - Frame Grid). In early 70s Telefunken sold tools and expertise to Tesla (Vrchlabí factory, near Rožnov), and this E83CC “Frame Grid” vacuum tube went in production with Code 32. From 1970 to 1982 (circa) markings were yellow or white, and pins were golden or rhodiated. From 1985 production was moved to the T?inec factory (Code 37). Some bulk “one hundred” packaging was also prepared for Czech postal services, and the “cross swords” logo imprinted on the glass. These are more tight selected and longer life tubes. Each tube in auction (E83CC Tesla, rhodiated pins, cross-swords logo, Code 32, date August 1982) is first of all tested with an AN/USM-118 “Cardmatic” well calibrated Hickok tube-tester, using three different operating points: 100Va -1Vg (ECC83 card, 1600 uMhos f.s.) 150Va -1Vg (6681 card, 2200 uMhos f.s.) 250Va -2Vg (12AX7 card, 2100 uMhos f.s.) For each test, Ia and gm is measured on both triode sections; if these values are within a given mean value the tube is pre-selected and goes to a curve tracer. With the curve tracer the whole 0 - 400Va span is measured with 0.5Vg steps from 0 to -3; if resulting plots match properly, the tube is finally selected as GOOD. Each tube is sold with its own curve plot (paper printing) in a white anonymous box (tubes comes from a single box/batch of 100 with no single Tesla box); Ia and gm value for each triode section (measured at 250Va and -2Vg) is clearly written. There is also the possibility to ask for: 1) Better matched tubes - that is: you want to buy more than one tube, asking for a matching not only between internal triodes but also between different tubes. This is possible for a limited number of tubes, with the expense of a higher price (+30%) 2) Worse matched (internal sections) tubes - that is: you want to use one tube in a circuit where (example given) one section is used as amplifier, the other as cathode follower; in that case you *MUST* specify which of the two triode section shall be used as amplifier (first section use pins 6, 7, 8; second section use pins 1, 2, 3) resulting in higher and better values. This is possible for a limited number of tubes, with the gain of a lower price (-50%) Please note that, even if you choose a worse-matched tube, this comes absolutely as NOS fresh tube, with excellent parameters. Only the matching between internal sections is worse; typical values (e.g. Ia, gm …) are still in the premium range. All my best is done to choose, test and sell you the better tube in terms of performances; but due to the numbers of instruments and variables involved in the measurement process, accuracy of the whole system is limited. This is important: even if I will sell the BEST matched tube according to my experience, there is always an error that could be as high as 10% - please take this into account. Please note that due to handling in the selection process some writes could be slightly vanished. I will do my best to choose aesthetically nice tubes, but this is done in a “first ask – first have” basis. For little packages (that is: up to four/five tubes; for higher numbers, please check) shipping costs are 40 Euros outside Italy.
