Shure V15III-DM Cartridge ---- without Stylus ---- With Dual Headshell Sled For sale is a Shure V15 III-DM Cartridge ---- without stylus (the current stylus is broken), attached to a Dual headshell sled. Purchase this cartridge only if you intend to use it with the appropriate Dual turntable (see below). You’ll also need a new stylus; the current stylus is broken. For those not familiar, the V15 III - DM is the Shure V15 III cartridge pre-mounted and glued into a Dual headshell sled (I believe the TK14 or TK24 headshell sled) for the Dual 1219, 1229, 601 and many other Dual turntables that use the same headshell. (There were also L-M, DL and DU versions of the Shure V15 III cartridge clipped into the Dual headshell sled. Again, the V15 III cartridge was the same; it’s only the headshell sled pre-mounting.) Because the cartridge is pre-mounted, there are no headshell or cartridge-sled set-up adjustments needed. Just clip the headshell sled in place. Of course you will also adjust the tracking force and anti-skate force. Those highly knowledgeable on the matter (see Vinyl Engine) say that this V15 III mounting system that Shure and Dual used in the V15III-DM (and the V15III-DU) has several advantages: (i) Light mounting since no screws are needed, so the system mass is reduced for better tracking. (ii) Easy interchangability between Dual turntables using the same headshell. Once clipped into the Dual TK14 or TK24 sled, no further alignment is needed. (iii) the four wires are factory connected from headshell sled to cartridge body (no mis-wiring). NEW STYLUS NEEDED The current stylus cantilever is broken. A new stylus will slide right into the cartridge. The original Shure replacement stylus was model VN35MR. There are several manufacturers and retailers of Shure stylii. Example: JICO stylus #VN35HE or LP GEAR stylus #SHSV15IIIHE are each a good choice for the V15 III (including the DM, DL, DU and L-M versions, as the cartridge is the same).
